I've had a few people think mine's FWD too. Usually have to pop the hood to prove it isn't..

My roomate was riding with me a few years ago. We were going somewhere and I was telling him how I wanted to put my 302 in here on day. (back when I hated turbos, sigh...). Anyways, he asked how would that work with it being FWD. I told him it was RWD. He said I was wrong. So I got on a backroad and did about 6 donuts. He concluded the vehicle was indeed RWD.

If the person who's riding with you can't tell it's RWD, they must not be much of a gearhead. The shiftknob moves side-to-side with the throttle and there's a huge(ish) transmission tunnel dividing the cabin. Plus, wouldn't the Miata have to have an extraordinarily tiny engine in order to fit transversely between the front wheels?

once when I was getting miata aligned, they were repeating back what the prices were, then they through in an extra charge since they were going to have to align the rear wheels as well. When I asked why, they said they do that to all FWD cars.

I have had so many people ask me what engine the car has. I replied its a 1.8 4 cylinder rwd. They reply with "WHAAAA? That thing is rear wheel drive? wow"

I couldn't see much happening when/if they tried to put it in gear, other than stalling it a few times while scratching their heads.

I've had waaaaaaaaay too many people tell me my car is fwd.

But hey, I've also had quite a few think my car was either a "sick little supra" or a Porsche.

Zach Efron- Lead Actor in all the Disney High School Musical Movies. I have a 9yo that digs the movies. Vanessa Hudgens, his girl, got in trouble with the media last year for sending nekkid pics or herself to him. If you don't know who they are then here ya go.

Zach and Vanessa

No sir, its a Viper... Ive been told "Nice Viper" by like 3 or 4 people... Of course I dont correct them, just say thanks and speed away. Ive also had several people say something along the lines of "Those look alot like those Honda Del Sol's, I used to have one, cute, fun little car..." Takes alot to not stop them mid sentence, PLEASE Sir, dont compare this car with something like a Del Sol... Then Ive had older people like my grandfather think they were much newer cars than what they are. He asked is my NA was an early 2000 model. I guess the styling is timeless.

Vanessa Hudgens Too bad she did the nudes and ruined the appeal...

Agreed. She is still an attractive woman though, and wiser as well.

This was posted at my local forum too. Someone actually believed they swapped in a FWD-drivetrain in that thing. 'Because mechanics and dyno-operators can't be stupid'

Needless to say, I cried a little inside...
