With the ducat photograph I used like a 20 second exposure in a pitch black room (my old garage) and then walked along the top of the bike pointing a light down on it. Actually I dont think it was a light, I think it was a strobe light set on its highest frequency, haha

I agree, and ran a quick test which found a few bugs:
https://www.miataturbo.net/forum/t42892/
1. We can allow multiple votes, but there is no way to limit the amount of multiple votes. So single vote is better determinant since everyone could technically vote for every car.
2. There is a 10 choice limit on a poll (and 12 months in a year). We'd have to have a poll for each month, with top choice getting month, and top half of runner ups going on to next month to compete with 5 new submissions as well.
3. Links to pictures must be less than 100 characters, including the [img] brackets. vbulleting thing we probably can't get around.

TimR, I hope you do this.
I got the latest SCCA mag last night, and there was a calendar included. The layout was one large pic on the page above the calendar, then 4 smaller pics across the top.
Maybe you should limit the number of pics each user can submit, so that we don't end up with a flood of doppelBanger's pics (don't get me wrong, they are nice). And +1 to each user putting in 12 votes. Maybe assign points so that a top vote is 12 points, a 12th place vote is 1 point, etc?
Last thing, make sure you have hard deadlines on everything. So: have pics submitted by X date, then open up voting and vote closes on X date.
Do it! Need help, let me know. My wife did a cal through shutterfly, the quality was great and the price was manageable, I think $20 for the first cal and $10 each thereafter.

2. Ah.. the only thing is i know their will be more sumbissons than that. Anyone have any objections to me hosting a MT.net flickr? Every month I could upload low res's of photos and we could narrow them down to 10. is there anyway around this?

It should be noted that picture size needs to be very large to make quality prints on paper. Remember that printing pictures will make them a bit darker and that dark pictures will not come out all that great. When I say large, I mean 600x800 ain't gonna cut it...think around 1500x1100 +
The way *I* would do it is to start a PICTURE ONLY thread... edit out ALL conversation. 1 picture per post, LIMIT submissions to maybe 2-3 per person posted as seperate posts (sometimes what they think is their best picture isn't the best by other's standards and this gives people choice). Then take all the pictures, give them numbers and start another thread posting the pictures with numbers in the thread and have the numbers for each poll option. Since I'm sure we'll have a few doxen pics, I agree that voting for 12 pics would be good.
How many poll options are allowed? If there are like 42 pictures submitted, it may just be that the only way to do voting is to post all 42 pics in one thread and do post-numbers-as-your-vote and someone(s) will have to tally up the votes.
Cliffs-
Picture submission thread
Take submitted pics and start another thread for voting.

Best (and easiest) solution to me is honor code melee voting.
Take all submissions, divide them up into groups of ten, and allow everyone to have multiple votes in each poll. This way we don't lose any good pics in a playoff type setup.
Just leave it open for a week, and pick the twelve most popular across all of the polls.
EDIT: We shouldn't worry about it too much though. We'll get good pics, and some will be left out. Whoever makes it (OP) can take artistic liberty anyhow. If we vote in a turd that doesn't pass your artistic standards, or you want to include some simple shot of a great car (like splittime's Miotta above), then you should feel free to.

Whatcha sayin'? If I submit a bunch of pics, they'll all get voted in? jk, 'preciate the words though.
Don't worry, I'll be taking pics just for this and will not be submitting any pics that have been posted on this site/my cardomain/my flickr before.

Let me put a reminder out there on picture quality...
(pictures based on picture quality not content)
Good- contrast is good, image is sharp, not washed out, nothing distracting
Bad-Sky is washed out, reflections in the lens by tail lights, side of car is washed out, hazard lights (yellow) too distracing
Good- Subject in focus and is easy to see, color is good, crisp
Bad- Tons of grain (spots), never have the subject and the sun in front of you
Good-
Not so good-
Hotness-
Notness
