So I did.

I sold my 99 Altima which was in a wreck before I bought it but was fixed up to be mint, then I proceeded to rear end somebody twice in it, it had a blown right strut, it had a rusting undercarriage, and CEL's for Evap solenoids that cost 90 bucks a pop. It also had a lot of scratches from living outside in Brooklyn. The gas mileage was **** poor, and it started really badly. The engine also never warmed up in a normal time.

Purchased for 4000, 4 years ago. Sold for 1700 3 days ago.

Picked up my friends parents 2000 Civic. Everything is manual except the transmission and locks. Has AC/Heat, radio with a single disc, alarm, and its ******* clean inside and out. New tires with rims, one fullsize spare in the trunk as well as the donut. Had all maintenance performed and all records to back it up. They bought the thing with 9 miles on it, sold it to me with 124k.

Price ------ 2500 bucks.

I must admit, I now see why people are so batshit insane over civics. 124k miles, the car runs like its off the show room floor, the interior doesnt have a single creak, its stupidly light and nimble, rides great, and is fairly peppy with a 1.7l 115hp 4cyl. Turns on a dime, and gets great fuel economy.

Definitely a great piece of engineering. Its just worlds better then the Altima. Sure the Altima was an SE with leather, sunroof and all the other bells and whistles. But if you just compare the "car" aspect of them, the civic is a much better car in every way. Even my father was like "woh" when he drove it.

Definitely impressed.

Now I just need to decide what stickers to get.

you would have to compare the civic to the sentra not an altima which is a larger car than the civic. but i understand your point. my daily jetta is a 96 with 225k on it and it runs perfectly fine and strong. i got it for 900$ and haven't had to replace anything on it *yet*

That's understandable, different class of cars. But still, comparing the Altima to the Civic, the Altima was garbage.

I've got a good friend works for Nike. Has a 100 mile round trip commute every day. Drives a Civic he's owned for over 20 years now. Does regular maintanence. Car has over 300K now and still looks and runs great. Other than normal wear parts nothing has broken.

It's not the Honda's, it's the Honda "culture" guys that mess up the brand.

I'm thinking very seriously about whether to buy this car. It would be a dirt cheap way to get into full bore SCCA/ ISCC/ NASA racing. He's had it for sale for a while, I could likely get it for $2500. It comes pre-dented so I wouldn't sweat a little wheel to wheel action in it. Run ITc for a year or two in this and move up to a more exiting class when I'm ready for a hotter car. Looks like that's what he did.

awesome simplicity there cueball, did anyone read GRM's latest magazine with their article about racing series you can get into for less than $15,000? The Honda H2 and H5 class was in it, one was that car with about 120hp, the other series allowed swaps from later years making it up about 180hp, looked like fun and they were some of the cheaper series. The 120hp version was a little slower than a spec miata, but the 180hp was quite a bit faster.

I had a bunch of rsx's and civic's before and absolutely loved them all...great cars, and congrats on your purchase...that civic will go another 124k miles without a hiccup if you take care of it.

Like was said before: its not the cars that suck, its the ricers that give honda's a bad name. use it for what its meant to be used for, (not street racing and being stupid) and the car serves its purpose great

Threadjack but yeah, Curly, saw that article. Take that beater ITC car and drop an RSX motor in it. Could make for some fun. Gotta say having driven FWD and RWD cars I'm pretty partial to the RWD. Like the Miata a lot on the track. $2500 for a fully prepped race car with spares though would be a pretty painless way to get into wheel to wheel racing though. I'll have to look into the rules for that Honda series. I think it's a NASA class though. I haven't seen any NASA events around here.

Nice daily. I owned a few Hondas and never had a problem that I didn't cause.

I'm kinda surprised no one has pointed out that this is a 1.6l car, not a 1.7l (unless it received a swap).
