Welding Table
This past weekend I stopped by a local junk yard to see if I could find steel for a new welding table. My current welding table is not cutting it. I came across a 33x28 ¾ inch piece of plated steel that looked to be in good condition. I would have preferred to have found a slightly longer piece of plated steel and ½ thick rather than ¾ inch. I guess you take what you can get sometimes. For the legs of the table, I found a few 2x4 ¼ rectangular bars. So far this has been a fun project. It’s going to be nice welding off of a sturdy surface once this table is finished. This sucker is going to weigh 400 pounds when it’s done!
Also, Loki047 will be pleased to hear I’m using fluxcore to weld this table together. I will say it’s easier to weld with fluxcore on thicker material. My little 220volt Lincoln is not powerful enough to mig this steel thickness:( I’ll post some more pictures when this table is done if you’re interested.

My uncle has the coolest damn welding table ever. Its about 10 ft long by 5ft wide and it uses 1" plate. Took a forklift to move it in the shop(he has a plane hanger as a shop) but it's great being able to put your entire workpiece on the table at one time. Just pray you don't need to move it someday. Picked it up from a machine shop that was going out of business really cheap. Pretty sure the steel was worth more than he paid for the table.

10x5 is a good size welding table! I've found that plated steel runs around $1 a pound and then you have to figure in delivery costs. I'm pretty sure a 4x8 1/2 sheet is around 645 pounds. The largest size plated steel I could find in my area is 4x8. I originally wanted to build a 4x6 table, but weight and price is an issue. I know I'll be moving in less than a year and I don't want to deal with moving a huge welding table. I bought my junkyard steel at 23 cents a pound which is a steal over new steel if you can find the sizes you are looking for.

I got a 2x4 piece of 1/2" steel and welded 1.5" pipes on as legs. Before I put the cross member supports on I got a piece of 3/4" plywood, cut 4 holes in it and slid it over the legs (the table was upside down). Then I welded locking wheels to the bottom and put vice on it (kind of a removable setup). This means that my table has a wood shelf about 8" from the floor. Pretty damn handy. I wheel it out of my garage when I do any grinding, etc so I don't **** up my garage.

I like flux core. It's ugly but easy. Kind of like me.
My dad got his tables from a company that liquidates resturant supplies. So he got these big *** stainless tables for crazy cheap. One of them even has a giant sink in it. They are very cool.

Yeah, I guess I could have mig'd with a couple of passes. I had a 10 lb roll of flux core sitting around and just decided to use it. This is the one time I don't care what my welds look like.
My mouth is doing just fine. Life is pretty much back to normal. The only weird thing is learning how to chew all over again. I'll post some before and after pics for ya when I get a chance.

that movie looks great on SuperBit DVD. I friggin love SB DVDs. Awesome picture, play on all players, and usually $10 or less. 
The SB DVD often costs less than the standard version of the disc.
Though I think stores are carrying them less and less now that HD and BR DVD players have come down in price. I'd bet the less expensive, and less profitable SB DVDs hurt the true HD DVD sales.

nothing a little hand grinder won't take off..
Our stainless welding table looked pretty bad after 6 months, I don't think it'll matter too much. We just had a roll around table like you'd see in a kitchen.. thin stainless. if we needed to weld something thick, we'd use a plate and weld on top of that.. It wasn't the best table in the world, but it was like $100 at Sam's.. for 96% of what you'll weld, it's more than enough.
