Default My autocross beater

Bought this 91 escort GT for $400 a while back then decided to paint it championship white. For those of you that don't know it has basically the same motor as a 1.8 miata. I added parts for autocross (STS, I won't bore you with the mod list) and raced / daily drive it. I won the championship in STS and STS tarmac rally this year (my club, not nationals, we aren't part of the SCCA we just use their rules), but I'm bored of racing the car so I'm going to build a turbo miata for street mod. Hope you guys enjoy the pics

old

The sound of roughly 130whp in all its fury

Yeah it has a few things in common with a miata

off track in 3rd gear, oops!

First autocross of last season

First autocross of this season

Fun on a moist track with blown struts

It never occurred to me that an escort could own in autocross.

mazda engine, chassis, brakes, transmission, suspension... oh yeah it's a mazda. lol.

It's built on the same chassis as the protege and 323 and it comes with a BP.

once I got the alignment dialed in it actually handled pretty well. the strut suspension is still inferior to dual wishbones like civics and miatas have though :(

I thought about it but the miata has a better chassis and is rwd so i'm going that route. i've driven some high hp fwd cars at the track and it's not really what i'm looking for lol

Yeah I agree. It would just be badass to see a turbo escort. I usually don't like fords, but there are those exceptions with mazda power plants (probe gt, escort gt, ect)

Clean escort though.

Thanks for the compliment, I usually don't like fords either but I wear a ford racing shirt to the autocrosses to annoy the honda folk. A friend of mine on another forum has one with a 323 GTR motor making 275whp on a fairly rough tune, he says people are scared to ride in it just because they don't think an escort should be accelerating that fast

There's a guy by us with a diy turbo escort. He made his own mani and dp and basically everything himself. He stopped me in a best buy parking lot once to see under my hood. He insisted he didn't even have a computer or go online for info on building his setup, which I thought was impressive.

I've had a couple proteges as well, but for a street car I'd pick the escort just because it can hold so much more stuff in the hatch. On the other hand if you race a protege and show proof to mazda, you can get a discount on mazdaspeed parts. At any rate they're both great daily drivers

i still have a soft spor for EGTs. i was actually going to do either an EGT motor swap or the turbo KL out of my probe gt in our old 95 lx wagon, well untill my dumbass sister fliped it.

my friend that i sold my first SHO taurus too still has a 93 wagon with a BP swap in it.

Actually, while escorts are really capable autox cars in their class. I think that 1967cutlass thinks his ride is the bomb... after all, I am sure you'd own my Miata on the track... right?

After all, I'm the noob without a clue... If I read your post correctly elsewhere.

ZOMG your car is faster than my escort with less than 1/2 the power and a build specific to a fairly limited class on street tires? Not much gets past you does it?

There's no need to come "pwn" me in my own thread just because I called you out for being an irresponsible jackass in another one.

Hey, you called me out as the Noob.

Nice ride... I know, you should be able to run around with your busted as escort with blown struts, but my car is irresponsible because it actually doesn't handle like a PIG. Yes, my car actually can corner flatly without lifting it's leg to pee in a turn.

Hmm I wonder what aspects of the miata's chassis makes it so it won't lift the rear tire and an escort will.

P.S. I replaced the struts after that race

Can a moderator please remove his posts from my thread?

Yea buddy!! Escort GT build is in my near future plans.. I've got bigger fish (well, smaller car actually) to fry first.

Doing a 1.8GT swap into a 1992 Festiva. Plan on bone stock engine with about 7psi. 180fwhp + 1700 pound car == Fun!

You don't own this thread... The internet does... You're ego is writing checks your body can't cash son.

Sorry I couldn't resist... and you'll just have to look at my car a little longer.
