I had a home break in where I stopped the guy and held him till the cops showed up. I'm GLAD I didn't have a gun, would have been a lot more messy and complicated than it was. Turned out to be a confused drunk University student.

But I'm a Canadian, so I'll just have another beer and shut the **** up.

You should have executed him with a bullet to the head.

You get a traffic ticket for killing your first pedestrian in Sicily. After that, you might do time. So only one freebie. And thats if the policia even show up.

If someone actually breaks into my house (comes through a window etc.) they are toast unless they can outrun a .40, 20 ga buckshot, throwing axe, multiple throwing knives, or me with a sword depending on which weapon is closest upon alert to their illegal entrance.

Now, in your case your door was probably unlocked. If I left the doors unlocked I'd at least flick on the lights and give fair warning. If they made any threatening moves then they'd be toast. Misundertandings can happen. You should have seen the look on my roomate when he came back into town 3 days early without calling and woke me up at 3am. Lucky for him I check faces before unloading.

Would have been my last day being your room mate.

How many times have you been a victim of a violent crime?

that just the thing, some people DONT want to be and REFUSE to be a victim. i had someone try to rob me once and thats about it, but i still carry almost everywhere i go and also have a couple loaded guns in the house. if some punk piece of **** tries to rob, carjack, or whatever to me, i will be the one going home safe that day, and not just become another crime rate stat.

Let me preface this by saying I'm not trying to be combative. That being said I don't put myself in situations where I might be in physical danger, nor will I live in a neighborhood where that is likely. I'm also of the opinion that owning a gun might actually escalate a situation to a level it might not have gotten to without a gun or if only one party had a gun.

Well, I also live in wealthy burbs. That helps. Either way I just don't want to ever own a gun. Hope you don't have to use yours.

Actually he came in through a window of my then 1st floor apartment. My wife was a sleep and I happened to be up reading a book. Came in through the window and I let him have it. Again, I'm SO glad I didn't shoot him, justified or not he didn't deserve to die for being a drunk idiot.

Not to mention what would have happened if I would have had a gun and lost control of it.

Anyway, to each their own. I'm just really glad I live in a place where needing a gun (or the perception that you need one) isn't common place. The snow sucks ***, but the beer and bacon is top notch.

I guess im glad to live in a place where staying calm and clear minded almost always gets you out of the situation.

PS. When you do get help up at gun point. Let me know how quickly you get your piece out while you have one in your face. The guy who is robbing you is already a step a head and when it comes to guns its all he needs.

The best defense isn't a gun its to stay out of situations like that.

Didn't seem to be the case at NIU today... Seems that if someone had been carrying, several lives could have been saved. Ah well, only let criminals have guns and we'll all be safe when the cops finally show up to take our skate boards away.

Mark

Thank god Illinois and chicago in particular has tough gun control laws, it could have been much worse otherwise... right? GAG!

The sad part is all those recent killings haven't been in Chicago with tough gun control but more lack suburbs.

What if someone had superpowers, more lives could have been saved. Oh thats right we don't know that. We are making **** up. Its fun to make **** up.

And it could have been..Like VA Tech

even if there were no gun control laws, the univerisites probably would have strict no-gun rules anyway.

give them to the criminals? at worst they get off one badly aimed shot and are easily tracked by the black powder smoke/smell?
