Default Anyone here have experience with Greenville SC?

We are looking to move into that area around the beginning of Summer. We are planning a 4 day trip to the area that spans the Easter weekend. We like the Greenville area. Any personal experiences of the area would be greatly appreciated.

Here are the other areas that we are looking into, mainly the outskirts of Greenville.

Greer SC
Traveler's Rest SC
Simpsonville SC
Anderson SC
Boiling Springs SC

You should give James @ BRP (aka SoT) a call or shoot him an e-mail.... they are right around Greenville, and might be able to give you some pointers.....

Just think, you'll be closer to the gap then. <G>

I've had several clients with lake houses in the Anderson area. It's a nice area, but I don't think there's a lot of money/opportunity there for the full time residents, and they really seem to resent those with the lake houses.

I am not concerned about job at this point. I will be working remotely with my current company. All I need is highspeed internet access....Beside that I will be way over the median income of the area!!! Yippie, always a plus....Florida Salary in good OL' SC....works for me! I basing this on a pure financial standpoint. I have over 150k in equity in my house, and I can get A LOT more house up there than I can down here. That combined with the super expensive homeowners insurance down here(I am a lucky one, mine only doubled its yearly cost). Super expensive car insurance, high taxes in my area...I can sell my house, and finance about 50-60k. Pay may current mortgage rate I am now and be clear in about 7 years, before I am 40. I am looking forward to change in seasons and all that jazz. Out of all of that, my real main concern is the school system up there. I have an 8 yo that is in 2nd grade, and I want to be in a good district!

Ben,

Hey man,

Talk to me about like Kennesaw or Acworth....Marietta or Powder Springs...

My brother lived in Powder Springs for about 5 years, but that was 3 years ago. He loved it up there, but moved back down here to be closer to family.

I would look at the NE suburbs instead of the NW suburbs. I think they'll be closer to what you liked about SC.

The very north end of Gwinnett IMO is the place to be, especially if you can work from home. Lower crime, lower property insurance and taxes, rapidly appreciating houses, still has the feeling of being country wihout being really rural or far away from Atlanta, and a real good school system. There are plenty of nice houses $200-250k with nice yards and pretty public parks. It's also near Lake Lanier, Lake Alatoona, and literally a dozen good golf courses. Not to mention Road Atlanta and the Atlanta Dragway aren't far. The N GA mountains are less than an hour away.

Check out Braselton, Hoschton, and Dacula. The Dacula and Mill Creek Schools are supposed to be the newest, nicest, and best.

Golf, good schools, picturesque settings, appreciating property values, race tracks? What more could I ask for? Thanks for the tips! We plan on driving through ATL on the way up, then hitting I-85 E to Greenville, or on the way back....The Mrs may want to stop in Savannah. We will stop in a check them out either way. Thanks Bro!

Tee time?

Sorry, I can't--my knee won't let me. Which is unfortunate as there is excellent golfing (Bear's Best, Legends at Chateau Elan, Hamilton Mill, Traditions of Braselton, Hammer's Glenn, St Marlo, and many others. WaterFalls Country Club is a few hours away (that's where the BIG money is like Truitt Cathy, Michael Jordan, etc))

I found a nice home in Hoschton. It's across from a small mountain that is a public park with horse trails, a stocked fishing pond, and all sorts of wildlife. I have the view of the mountain from my front yard. A few of the houses in my neighborhood even have a river behind them, but not mine. I have $200k in my house on 1.5 acres in a nice middle class neighborhood and I'll be shocked if it's not worth $250k when I put it on the market next year.

Hit me up when you're coming & I'll show ya around.

I lived in Charleston for about a year and a half while I was going through engineering school. Loved that area and planning to probably move back there after I get out of the Navy.

i live in simpsonville and go to school in greenvilee and my parents live in greenville. i love the area. good temps, have the mountains not too far away have lots of lakes and about a 3.5 hour drive to the beach. we are expanding like crazy these days and are getting new places on a daily basis. brp is about 20 mins from my house and we have a miata club and a 3 auto x clubs and road atlanta a little ways away. i am still in school and dont know much about job openings but i will say we are growing fast as hell. its so fast that the roads cant be expanded enough to keep up. traffic isnt awful yet. just gets slow on the interstate in the mornings and at 5. woodruff is a pretty busy road i would try to stay away from now. (even though my dad lives on it) i am about to move in with my sister in anderson next to a pond. prices are awsome, greenville is a little high but not awful. cops arnt horrible around here. i am about 4 hours on the dot from tail of the dragon and about 30 mins from an 1/8th mile and 1.5 hours from a 1/4 mile. we have a pretty large local (hangout) on sunday nights and a street scene forum if its your thing. we have auto x's in orangeburg, columbia and in nc... did have some in clemson but they university is being a bitch to us right now. i have lived here all my life and my parents have always said its pretty cheap to live here compared to other cities/areas. downtown greenville has been cleaned up alot and looks great now. simpsonville is nice. not as much traffic not to far from everything and has quite a bit in its self. but i still find my self going ot greenville everyday once or twice.

funny that youd bring up the city i live in if you have anymore specific's ill be glad to help out the best i can.

In South Carolina there's no state inspection for autos of any kind and 93 octane available anywhere.

Nice just like FL. No inspection and 93 octane is god...

Philip, LOL, you wouldnt believe all the people that move to Montana and Idaho. I am in the moving/transportation industry and you would be simply amazed. Either people are retiring up there, or they are starting thier own militant group.

MXV....

Simpsonville, Greer, Anderson....

I will be telecommuting so traffic isnt a concern at this point. However, I cant be to rural as I need the technology available to do my job. My 1st priority is to locate the best schools districts in the greater Greenville area. That is the most important thing right now. If you have any info on that or can point me to some local web links, I would be most grateful. Once that is established then we can zero in on communities and areas....We havent decided on new construction or exisiting. The market is soft now so we may get a new build for a good price. Same goes for existing structures. What do you know of Poinsett Home Builders? They seem to be very big in the area.

my dad having just built his home might beable to help you in that area. my mom tells me the east side is the place to be to be zoned for some good schools. cable is run pretty much anywhere around here. i live about 15 mins out of simpsonville out in the sticks and we got cable internet probly about 7 years ago. so i am almost certain even 30 mins out is covered. i think youll be safe for that no matter how rural you go around here. about the only school i think i hear anyone trying to avoid is woodmont high. as for elementry schools and middles schools greenville middle seemed to have pushed their kids harder than my middle school or many others for that matter. high school... riverside is the place to be i believe. me not knowing what schools your talking about i am talking blindly but if your looking for colleges, we have greenville tech... their are campus's alllllll over the upstate in greer and greeville and simpsonville and tr. tritech is in clemson near anderson and itt tech inst is the place to be for technology and they are in greenville. plenty of choice pretty much anywhere around here.

Thanks for the tips....I would drive the roadster up there, but we will be sporting the Mini Cooper this time around.

If you can ask your father what are good school districts and who the reputable builders are that would be awesome. Ask him about Poinsett Homes if you dont mind...They primarily build in Greer, Simpsonville, Spartanburg and Boiling Springs.
