I currently have a very old phone. Its not a smart phone, I would consider it of average intelligence. I have loved it because it is damn near indestructible, and I am normally very hard on phones.

I am very cheap, so cheap is good, but I want to do it right the first time, so Im not against spending 3 or 400 dollars.

I despise everything that is apple, so I probably wont buy one of those.

Would like it to be relatively thin, and not so huge its unmanageable, my bosses new phone is literally as big as a tablet and it's retarded, kinda lost the whole mobile part of mobile phone.

Need it to be pretty sturdy, without the addition of a otterbox contraption, as that ruins the whole point of having a pretty and thin phone.

Currently with ATT and not at all against changing.

Will use it mostly for web surfing, gps, winning arguments, and hopefully some emulation.

Decent battery life is a huge plus, current phone can go one week without a charge

Ever since I heard gorilla glass on the new Razr commercial, i got all excited, Im sure its all marketing but still, I want to tell people I have Gorilla Glass.

So I am currently leaning towards the Motorola Razr Maxx .

Right now: Galaxy s2 skyrocket if ou want 4G. Galaxy S2 if you don't want 4G.

In a month or two: I'll be getting the galaxy s2 skyrocket HD. 1280x720 resolution and a slightly larger battery.

All of those phones have gorilla glass.

I'm still rocking the original Galaxy S phone - it's pretty freaking amazing, I've had it for a year and a half now, and "buying a new phone" isn't something that has even crossed my mind. I would expect to get another 2-3 years out of it, easy, as our phone-technology has reached a plateau: If I want to add functionality to my phone, I simply download an app. The major advances that I see happening in the next 2-3 years will be merely battery life. I expect my next phone to have - at a minimum - a fast-charge li-po battery. I had a screen protector on the phone for about 8 months before I ripped it off, and haven't looked back - the glass on the front still looks like I just pulled the phone out of the box. Another nice thing about it, is there are guides for custom ROMs (custom operating systems) for the phones, as well as tools to flash your phone back to stock configuration if you F* it up and brick the phone. After the last couple of samsung's updates to the phone, I find that I'm not even interested in a custom ROM anymore - now I just need to figure out how to cloud my files to my network so that I can take a photo, and then grab it with my computer - instead of connecting my phone to my computer to pull them off as a storage device - I'm sure it's simple, I just haven't tried.

Verizon JUST dropped the 2-year price for the HTC Rezound to $50. This is a phone that was $299 with a 2 year activation all of 2 months ago. It's got the best screen out there, dual core proc, 4G/LTE...it's basically the hardware equal of any of the top-level phones out there right now (RAZR, Nexus, etc).

The one in the link is the one I have. It's not extremely high-performance (Angry Birds can be choppy on it sometime) however it has one very excellent feature- a good keyboard.

Personally, I hate on-screen keyboards. They're hard to use accurately, and they occupy space on the screen. Even for casual typing (eg, responding briefly to an email or entering a URL in the web browser) I find having the slide-out keyboard to be extremely useful. If I were shopping for a new phone, the presence (and quality) of a physical keyboard would be the absolute #1 determining criteria, outweighing all other factors.

I have the RAZR and it's awesome. I love it, besides the terrible battery life. A friend of mine has the RAZR MAXX and while it is thicker, the battery life is drastically improved. It is a bigger phone though, I was surprised when I saw it for the first time in real life.

I threw a slim cover on mine with a screen protector just so I can keep it scratch free. I've had it for over a month now and I'm glad I went with it. Only thing I'd change is the battery life, which the MAXX has fixed. The 4G is super fast where I live, but that seems to be what kills the battery on the regular RAZR. Great video quality, super fast phone compared to my last smartphone, and very easy on the eyes aesthetically.

Having a good slide-out keyboard has definitely been one of my must-haves. My first-gen Galaxy S has a sliding keyboard, and my previous phone was an HTC Touch Pro 2 - also with a sliding keyboard. The touch pro 2 would have been baller if it wasn't a Windows phone.

I have to admit, I will never be able to type as fast and error-free as I could on my BB Bold and Curve.
On a phone with a 4" or larger screen though, I find the typing to be acceptable.

I prefer the bar phones. I used to only want full physical keyboards, but after having a touch screen for so long, that Ive become used to it, and as long as there is some feedback I can type without looking pretty accuratley

My brother recently got a prepaid Verizon, payed less then your budget and has unlimited talk or text I think, data too. I'd check out Virgin moble and boost mobile too.

Not iPhone. Sent from my iPhone, had it a month. Other than the life proof case I picked up I hate it. If they made life proof cases for other phones I'd take this thing out of the case and make it a frisbee. Plus it was a free gift to me so I'm only out an expensive case if I break it. Had a Samsung Nexus S before and liked it, wife uses it now.

Another option is the new HTC One line of phones coming out soon. I'm pretty sure ATT is getting one first.

Stay on ATT if you like their service and get good coverage. Don't worry if you don't have 4G service in your area yet. ATT's 3G is plenty fast. Verizon 4G is awesome, but horrible to your battery. And their 3G is ok, but sucks compared to ATT's. And ATT's 4G is just as good as Verizons when you do get it.

This is coming from someone who switched from ATT to Verizon for the Galaxy Nexus.
