Default Took the OTM to the track for the first time today

My GT's been turbo for about 3 years now, but I've never managed to get it to the track- usually something breaks the week I intend to go, or something else goes wrong. Everything went right for once, and I brought it up to Lebanon Valley.

Didn't break anything, but didn't get enough passes in to get comfortable with launching the car or with shift points. Best run was a 14.0@96 with a 2.1 60'- I had a hard time all day trying to get the DRs warm enough to hook, and kept getting wheelspin in first and occasionally second. Really irritating, because I know the car's faster.

And to preempt the comments I know are coming:

The old guys with the muscle cars all laughed at that one. The black GT in front of mine ran a best of 12.28@117- he was flying.

haha you stole all the insults out of peoples mouths with that writing, therefore you get praise

and 12's for an escort gt??!! HOLY **** no offense but that is surprising as hell: never knew people even modded those things..

14 is not too good but when I see its an escort gt running and having problems at that, it is actually very nice.
congrats

Why not? Same motor as the miata(pretty much), and a cool sleeper platform imo. Ive contemplated selling my integra to buy one for a dd so i can boost it later.

Why not? Its got the same motor as us! (94-97, with a few minor differences..)

I like this thread. Looked for an E-GT several months before I bought my MS6, couldn't find anything in even halfway nice condition yet they were still pulling premiums.

Yeah, 14s are pretty mediocre- I was getting faster as the day went on, and looked like I would hit my goal (I wanted 13s on the tiny IHI VJ20) but on my last run had a little too much wheelspin in first. The open diff with those DRs makes life interesting as well, the car was all over the place in the lower gears.

The 12 second GT has a GTR motor pushing 22psi with an MS2, better gearing, a Quaife, and a guy who's got a bunch more time at the track

To be perfectly honest, he hasn't spent all that much more than I have. I stopped keeping track of what I spent on this car long ago, it was getting depressing to think of how much I had sunk into a mediocre little econobox.

I may go for broke and try to narrow the gap by bolting on my GTR turbo and 550s and retuning, but it'd be a shame not to squeeze everything out of this setup before I go bigger. I'm going to fix the flatshift this week (was wired incorrectly by the E6K's previous owner) and take it back to the track on the 31st.

As an aside- I've had overboost problems since I put this turbo on (crappy IHI wastegate and free-flowing exhaust), but the second I hit the track, boost was right where I wanted it. When I left again, the car was exhibiting the same symptoms as when I got there. Any idea why that would happen? Only thing that changed at the track was that I put DRs on the car...

Heh, the day I switched from cheap rubber couplers and worm clamps to silicone and t-bolts, I stopped about fifteen times to fix blown charge pipes on my way to pick my younger sister up at Uconn. Turned a 20 minute trip into about an hour. Welded a bead to the pipes a few days later, and I've kept an 11mm ratchet wrench in the car ever since.

I'm in Colchester.
