VA is one of the easiest places to own/carry guns. but most students don't it's all the people who rob them that do
the situation doesn't make sense....someone shot up a dorm room at 7....they reopened school at 8, then he comes back and shoots up a classroom at 9....VT should have learned from the last shooter, last AUGUST!!!!

Up to 31 confirmed dead now. Very sad.
FWIW, I have a GA concealed carry permit. Even with the permit, I'm not allowed to carry a weapon into public venues or anywhere alcohol is sold. So I am allowed to carry, but not into places like a mall or school. Don't know how those laws differ state to state.

Its not that they reopened school at 8, they just never even sent out an email about the first shooting till near 9am. Then at 9:50am some kids came into one of my lecture classes telling everyone that there were shots being fired a building away. Then they locked down all the buildings so we couldn't leave or go to another building. We stayed in doors until around 12pm. Then walked to the commuter lot and got the **** out.
What I don't understand is why they waited until 9ish to send out an email saying there was a shooting when it occurred at a little after 7am. I was brushing my teeth at home when the first one went down. Had they dispatched an email immediately I would think that the second shooting wouldn't have been as severe because most people would have just stayed home.
I hope that none of the names of the people when they release them are people that I knew or were friends with. And I feel sorry for the parents that will get a call from the police to find out their son/daughter was shot in a senseless act.

Anyone owning a weapon, be it a gun or whatever, is supposed to store it at the VT police station. Having a gun on campus is the same as having a gun at a high school. Its not allowed. I have never seen a person carrying a handgun on campus, and before this year there has never been a need for such a thing in Blacksburg. This is truely the last place I would have expected this to happen.

Ya we got no listserv email until over an hour after the first shooting at the dorm happened. So, no one was the wiser other than people living in AJ I guess.
From what I have heard the gunman took his own life. I personally wish he didn't get that satisfaction and that he was pumped full of lead by police officers.

I doubt it would have been disruptive. Its more likely that they thought it might have been a single incident. But the fact that they had no one in handcuff for it means that they need to let everyone know immediately.
They seem to have this thought process here that they won't close school for almost anything. In my 3 years they haven't closed the entire campus more than 3 times. Even during the 2 bomb threats this month they only close down the threatened building. God forbid a bomb actually went off, do you think that the building would be the only thing affected?

over 20k. With faculty, staff, all students at peak hours there will be over 40k people on campus at a time.
In AJ alone there are almost 1k live in students, neighboring it is Pritchard - 1k students, beside it is cochrane where all the student athletes live - a good 5-600 students there.
