I agree with Hus. shot gun for home protection. Made even easier if you don't have kids. As for pistol choice, I love my 4" Springfield XD,chambered in .45, of course. As for cc I have a 3" Kimber Raptor 1911. Interestingly enough the XD actually fits my hand better than any of my 1911's, and shoots better, but it is to thick to carry comfortably.

By the way, there is only one true safety on a gun, that is the trigger finger indexed on the side of the gun.

again, going back to revolvers, a sweet solution on the safety is the magna-trigger

$410 for an unnecessarily complicated security system that I wouldn't trust anyway? No thanks.

EDIT: Also, there's only one thing in this world that is awesome enough to make me wear a ring most of the day, and I'm already married.

Ruger LCP....generally regarded as Ruger's "homage" (read: copy) to the Keltec.

What about the "Judge?" Then you can do every other shot, .45, .410

Also the same as the Taurus TCP. Like I said before, good for a pocket pistol, terrible as a shooter.

.410 out of a pistol length barrel is worthless, and if you really want to shoot .45 LC, there are better options.

I disagree, what better for home defense than .410 out of a pistol? You don't have to lug around a full sized shotgun (or even pistol grip) and it won't go through your wall and kill your neighbors. They even make rifled .410 slugs for home protection.

All kinds of things are better for home defense than .410 out of a pistol. It holds, what, 5 rounds? If I have to clear my house, I want a (relatively) high-cap pistol with an attached light in an appropriate pistol caliber with high quality SD ammo. If I'm holed up in the bedroom, I'm going to have a 12 GA pump loaded with 00 low-recoil buckshot aimed at the door.

Penetration is penetration, if it penetrates enough to drop an intruder, it's going to go through several layers of drywall. If you really want excellent terminal ballistics without much overpenetration, 5.56 NATO will fragment at most "inside the house" distances out of any 14.5" or 16" barrel.

I agree with you that there are better options, but I just don't think it's "worthless."

As for 5.56 NATO, I've got an AR-15 and if someone broke into my house I'd grab the glock or the shotgun before it I grabbed the AR. Also, the minimum barrel length in my state is 18" unless you get a special tax stamp.

But anyways, back to the OP's thread, not trying to hijack here.

Good summary of why the Taurus Judge is a fun novelty, but not a serious self defense or home defense option:

Are you in NY?

if you are in a home defense situation where you need more than 5 rounds, you may as use one of them on yourself. I've never seen or heard of a home defense situation requiring more than 3 decent shots. Most home defense scenarios are against a single intruder.

If you are the kind of person who attracts a gang of 12 thugs to your house who aren't deterred and start bailing after the first gunshot, then you probably ought to be sleeping with an uzi anyhow.

An UZI would be nice, but the real deal is too expensive for me, and the copies are mostly crap.

Probably going to pick up the 9mm. I ordered an Apex sear for the 9mm and .40... and keep leaning back towards the 9mm due to overall ammunition cost. Ordering the sear ruled out the .45 at this point for me. Doesn't fit

Can you swap barrel, mags, and extractors like with a Glock? You could always pick up a .40 pistol and then buy the relevant parts to shoot 9mm at the range.

You can do some swapping. The 80 dollar swap though is buying a a .40 and then you can just swap the barrel to run .357sig. Literally pop slide off, swap barrel... done.

I'd rather just own another handgun though honestly.

Sig Sauer has a few 40s that are rapidly convertible.

Yeah, but who's interested in .357 SIG? I don't like shooting it and it's expensive. Don't really like shooting .40 either, for that matter.

Much prefer shooting .45 out of my 20 oz. Kahr P45....

You track a miata, that already tells me your a 9mm guy. You can do more with less. I have SW9VE and love the gun. Got it this summer and have put about 2500 rounds through it. It goups 9" groups at 100ft and I'm an average shot. Yes I practice long range shots, left hand only, right hand only, one eye, etc. Hell I can afford to because I bought a 9mm. Though the 45 might have more knock down power the 9 has great velocity. Also check out +p+ ammo My next gun will be the M&P 9mm.

2500/50=50x10=$500 in 9mm ammo in 6 months You can double that for 45acp
