Default Planning a trip need opinions

Ok, so my In-laws are buying us tickets anywhere we want to go within reason. Need to keep our part down to around 2k including hotel/food/fun. Looking to make it a 10 day trip. I really would like something that involves us spending time alone most of the trip. Half but no more than half can be outdoors camping etc. The other half needs showers/hot tub/pampering. Do we go to a cheap coastal town and live on the beach for a week? Do we fly to Northern Cali and get lost for a week? Do we go to Costa Rica? Looking for best bang for the buck/unusual spot. Not really wanting to talk about our awesome trip and half the people in the room have been there done that. Doing stuff in the states is fine as long as its away from tourist hot spots. Staying in some remote cabin/bungelo with access by car to day trip places sound ideal. Ideas?

You mentioned Costa Rica.

If you are an outdoorsman, it is a great place. It has a reputation of being a man's place, but it can also be very couple or family friendly. Absolutely beautiful place, with plush accomodations if you desire. The best part about it, is that Costa Rica is an exotic location that is affordable.

Thailand and Egypt were my favorite low cost destinations.
I hear Cambodia and Vietnam are good too.

If you do scuba diving, the Philippines is the best bang for the buck.

However, Egypt these days ...

When are you planning to go? Might make a difference. I've been to Costa Rica and I think it could have a great bang/buck ratio. Same with North Cali/Oregon coast, but timing counts a lot.

What type of wife do you have? girlie girlie that will flip if left to porta johns or a move so I can dump by the tree kinda girl. I have the first one so when we took a 3/4 day trip we spent it in San Fran and was able to do tourist stuff when we wanted but able to hide out in the hotel and non tourist area as well. Figure out what she wants.. A happy wife is a happy life

One of the most beautiful beaches I've been on in my life was in Olympic National Park.

hop down to Australia for the F1 race next month and then spend rest of time scuba/road trip/whatever

phuket/Koa samui would be fun and cheep but I think it's a little bit wet for couple more months

fly into Athens and then take the ferry to whatever island ur in the mood for. I'd wait a little bit though things shutdown there in the offseason iirc

saving the best for last road trip alaska

Sounds very nice.

Personally, I love road trips in the midwest and western USA. The land is absolutely beautiful and in a day at 80mph you can travel pretty far. You could also go up the pacific coast highway.

Another option to look into might be Canada. I really don't know much about the geography of Canada but you could easily use up ten days driving around, staying at nice small hotels or bed and breakfasts.

Jacob - thats what the wifey and I had planned to spend a couple days in town and then a couple more in a Bed and Breakfast.. there are a town up there... And you will be within your budget.. Plus if you get bored you can always fly out of socal and hit Catalina Island or a million other places..
