To me it's the principle. I don't agree with a lot of out tax system as it is now. I think a lot of it is pure BS. I don't think a man making 100K should pay a higher % of tax than a man making 30K. And on the same basis, a man making 30K shouldn't pay less of a % than the guy making 100K. To me, that is not fair. That's argueable, but to me, it's just not fair. Why should someone that is more successful pay for those that are not? To me, it goes against the idea of the american dream. You probably think that is fair, and to me, that's BS.

Hell why don't we make the poor pay a higher % in taxes? Cut the wealth a hefty discount for being successful and just tax the poor more. That would be more "fair". They deserve it. To me, this makes as much sense as taxing the wealthy more. I don't see why either side should pay a higher %.

Fair enough, I'm burnt out on talking politics for about another four years anyway.

Now somebody post some more bad-*** pumpkins.

So starting wars with countries that had nothing to do with the people who attacked us is some how making us safer? I'm sure that isn't a catalyst breeding future terrorists...

please look at the quality of living in any number of European countries that have much more robust social welfare systems. And plenty of people there are successful and rewarded for their efforts. And plenty of people work hard here and get screwed at every turn.

The way to fix this is a flat tax. Why should I have to pay more of my check, than some lazy *** that didn't want to study or work.
Why should I pay more than some rich boy born into money.

FLAT TAX...................But it will never happen.

The tree of freedom is nurtured with poor men's blood.

I too will fight to my death for my freedoms.

I'll agree to a flat tax when you agree to price ALL COST OF LIVING ITEMS proportionally to income.

Then I can buy a $5 cheeseburger.
A poor guy can buy a 50 cent cheeseburger.
And the rich bastards can eat $500 dollar cheeseburgers.

A FLAT TAX IS NOT FLAT.

do I need to say it again?

the poor are already financially behind the curve. regardless of their bootstraps.

Then they can go back to school to better themselves and be the rich guy....or at least better off. The fact that he makes 15K a year is HIS fault, not mine.

+1. You can blame everything and everybody for your problems, but in the end, they're still your problems. Deal with them. If you want to live better, you have to work to get there. End of story. If you fucked up and thought you needed 3 kids when you were 21 and now you got a family to take care of and can't do anything to better yourself, well, that's your problem. People make choices. Others shouldn't have to pay for your choices.

I know when I graduated high school I was miraculously already holding a college degree and making $50k.

saying it's fucked up that someone wanted to start their family young is a little anti-republican isn't it? hell, starting a huge family early is a basic tenet of the republican base!

you guys argue against the tax structure by telling people how to live their lives. I find that ironic and counter to the idea of personal liberties....

You got me there. Let me take that back and say this. If you have 3 kids at 21 and can't take care of them, that's your problem, not mine. (note I removed my opinion from this) I'm not trying to tell ANYONE how to live their life. If that's what they want to do, fine. It's their choice. They have every right to do that. This is America. I wish them success.

I'm saying if someone gets themselves in a financial burden by CHOICE, then I don't think I should have to pay for it. Is that clear? That's really all I'm saying. They are the ones in control of their lives. No one else. They make their own choices for themselves and deal with them. I don't tell them what to do, I don't tell them how to do it, I don't ask them to pay me for anything, and I don't pay them for anything. That simple.

I like this thread! I won't comment but I'll read.

FWIW, Is anyone aware of this site? If the world could vote?

To me it shows that many people in the world care about what's going on in your country.

man this pumpkin thread got long. guilty!

I really only wanted to stop the name-calling and derisive comments. And if that takes four pages of discussion, so be it. I'd rather do that than have anyone think hateful thoughts about me or me about them, amirite?

so be nice. go volunteer. and god dammit go VOTE.
