Default Anyone have a cx 7?

So, I'm looking for a new car. My wife and I had our hearts set on an H3. We took one for a test drive and they are terrible! I've always liked the CX 7 and we fell in love with the 09' Grand Touring that we test drove. I was wearing my Flyin Miata T shirt and the owner of the dealership happens to be a big contributor to the local miata club, so he shot us a deal that almost made me **** myself.

I'm just looking for anyone that has any input on them. They seem like a great SUV for what I'm looking for. Interested in how they handle snow and the abuse of daily driving.

An old boss of mine has one. They suffer from the same issues that plague the mazdaspeed 3s. Turbocharger failures and a really shitty PCV system that has caused more than a few engines to give up the ghost.

I girl I was dating awhile back had one and I'd borrow it all the time. They're great, way better than an H3 if you ask me.*

From my limited, non-ownership experience.

I have driven quite a few, and considered getting one myself. I am sure there is a fix for the pcv problem, and the turbo problem is solved when replaced with a larger unit.

I like how you instantly assume I'm a douche. I guess disregard the fact that I wanted something that could get me through 14 inch snow storms with 3-4 foot snow drifts. I said **** it and I'll just use my snowmobiles if I have to.

Tool.

I instantly assume the same of owners of Hummer products. I am a tool as well, then.

Being an owner of a DISI 2.3 Mazda powered car, I'd suggest the V6... lol

My catch can has to be emptied monthly and my OEM turbo smokes like a chimney.

You know, i was going to agree with that, but i went and actually looked up the off road reviews of the H3.

Wow, they call it the new XJ. That's... huge praise. Huge. i have nothing bad to say about it anymore, as long as it's actually being used. From Wisconsin myself, i know how bad it can get in the countryside.

But really CX7 is actually... fun. And an SUV. Kind of a WTF moment the first time i drove one. But yeah, look up the PCV thing and mod it. Simple fix.

Thank you for the replies. PCV looks pretty easy to mod. If I have to eventually replace the turbo with a larger unit after the warranty runs out, no biggie.

Yeah, I never really liked the Hummer until my friend got one. During the major snow storm last winter, he just drove over. There were literally 5 foot snow drifts in my road and that was nothing for it. He pulled the other 4wd vehicles out of the middle of the road which had gotten stuck. Plus, my wife is a cop and there is no calling in because of bad weather or sick, unless you have cancer...maybe.

If you want an animal in the snow, pick up a used V10 diesel VW Taoureg (sp?).
Those things are amazing. I ran the V8 for about 100k miles, and the thing was unstoppable.

For better road performance, consider the BMW X5. These are really nice driving 4x4's that are pretty good on ice and snow, but nothing has been better than the VW.

True enough. If I lived in a climate where people needed some off-road capability for their commute I might have a different opinion of them. Everyone that has a Hummer in the south, OTOH, is a poser.

V10 diesel Touareg is secks! Test drove one with my dad when he was looking. I would love one, just can't see spending 40k+ on a used one.

I've got a 2010 CX7 and love it. Does well in the snow and ice. Like it a lot better than my '05 Tribute that I got rid of last year.

Ended up buying a brand spankin new cx-7 touring s. All of the used ones were sold and the owner hooked me up on a touring since I would've had to wait a month to get a grand touring. I LOVE this thing. It's a dog off the line but a beast in boost at highway speeds. Best decision I've made in a long time.
