Doesn't matter how you hold it. The phone knows which way is down, and responds only to panning in a left-right direction when in panoramic camera mode. The only way* I could get a complete shot of that actuator would be to turn the train sideways.
* = well, I suppose that if I could accelerate the train at a sufficiently high velocity then I could trick the phone into believing that "down" was actually towards the rear of the train, however I suspect that this might have unintended negative consequences the severity of which would outweigh being able to easily take a clear picture.
Such as death.

Take that in better light. ^^
Here we go, I tried a few tests with what i have to achieve the same thing.
These were all taken at the same distance 2 feet. (give or take a few inches)
This is the app "panoramic" (360). Pretty horrible. I tried two different apps, same result.
This is with the camera feature on the same device.
This was taken with my point and shoot Sony in 5mp (wide).
This was taken with my GoPro 11mp (wide)
I tried looking for a good picture of the part of Joe Kidd where the train is sitting through the saloon... I failed.

Well I'll be fucked.
I don't know if this is something that changed in a recent update or if I'm just retarded, because while I swear that the camera app on my S4 used to reject attempts to move up-and-down when assembling a panoramic photo, I just tested it and it's working.

You know, it figures... Just when I finally set aside my trusty ole 80's vintage Casio Databank calculator watches and start wearing something classy and European, all of a sudden geek watches become cool again.
Anyhoo, something to do if you're bored in Minnesota this winter (is it possible to be not-bored in Minnesota?)

The time has finally come.
My faithful old media-server PC, with its 15 year old first-gen Pentium 4 processor, has finally gone dark.
The power supply comes on, and everything which should spin does, but the motherboard isn't even attempting to boot. No video, no drive access, not even a pathetic little *meep* out of the on-board speaker to give some indication of life.
A memorial service will be held on Monday.

The thing is just too cool to pass up. You can custom make any face for it, make and receive calls, remotely use your phone camera, check all your messages, and use it for navigation.
My car does not have a BT thingie, so it's pretty helpful when I'm driving, too.
