Trying to be a hipster. First time trying it, my light source was my DeWalt cordless floodlight thing. I tried taping off the sides so the light didn't shine back to the camera but that didn't work. I also tried using a small LED flashlight for highlights. Cannon T4i 18-55mm with no filter. No editing either. New camera, just playing around with it.

It pisses me off that painting with light is now some sort of "hipster" thing. I was doing it on film back when a DSLR was a new thing to most people.
Ive only done it with a car on 2 occasions, both were a few years ago, around the time when everybody and there brother started doing it. So I havent done it since, which is fucked up because its something I used to consider my specialty. Hell, I had a DA account ~7 years ago called "paints-with-light"...

I think Ive just had hipster-itis my whole life. Even when i was a child. Id always be doing something, and then a year later people would be telling me about it like it was new or something.
What a sad person I am.

I've seen it done before and I just wanted to try it. I'm really not trying to be a hipster. The thing that really pisses me off is d-bags that go by a DSLR, a tri pod, and maybe a flash and that makes them professional car photographers that come out to the meets and have a FB page. It's like, really, I have had my camera for 2 weeks, have never taken a photography class and my pictures look better than yours. I did use to mess around with an old RICOH 35mm, which to my knowledge is a rebadged Cannon.
But again, I don't know **** about picture taking or cameras. Just got it and playing around with it.
lol iPhone is where the real camera is at. *THAT WAS A JOKE, don't yell at me.

Dont get me started.
All you need to be a professional car photographer is to take crooked pictures of cars, then go into photoshop and:
-HDR
-Oversaturate
-Overcontrast
-High pass filter
-HDR
-Black border
-Big watermark that says "jD_PhOTo_wErkz"
-HDR
and then you are BONAFIDE FAGOOOT

My father has been doing long exposure shots with flashlights to highlight subjects since the 1960s, and he didn't invent it. He taught me how to do it and to develop my own black and white photos when I was in elementary school. Lol @ hipsters and how everything is new to them.
When I did it with my car I was trying to hide my car's lousy paint for the mfz feature photos. It is embarrassing to have a feature done when your car isn't pretty. I have trouble spending money on paint when paint doesn't make it faster.

I have never heard of painting with light being a hipster thing.
Also you are all reacting very angrily to some sort of semi-factual-almost-claim.
which is pretty amusing to me. you don't care about truth, you care about hating something arbitrarily.

I wish they would make this car, not because Ill ever have one, just because I think its freakin bad *** and gives me a chubby, and not because the front grill looks like a big gaping vagina at the front 3/4s view.
