RAVE: Just bought a new DD
#23
Yeah dude. My dad has had two 530i's. One they changed the oil at 17K. The newer one was like 14K. The trans fluid I believe is a "Lifetime fill" or until your car doesn't shift out of park story. Same with the diff. You really need to read up there's a few more zingers coming up. Cliff notes: no spare, cutting rotors? Gtfo., no dipstick, window position memory loss, need the dealer to replace the battery or reset the service reminders unless you buy an interface thingy, bmw ecu records cold engine hoonage and general hoonage, high oil temps, limp mode due to high oil temps, etc. Do yourself another favor and join the bmw cca it's 40 a year and you get discounts on parts and access to the roundel magazine which has incredible tech support.

Thanks grapist.
Another interesting tidbit. My wife wanted me to call about insurance before buying just, you know, if it was stupid high or something.
Currently I pay $351 for full coverage on my 05 Dodge Quad Cab 4x4 for six months with high limits and 250/500 deductibles. Now for an 08 BMW 335i for same coverage? How about only $322. Go figure.

I work in the commercial banking industry so I couldn't afford that unless I picked up human trafficking on the side. For run of the mill e46's my insurance company (Esurance) wanted 300 a month. I currently pay 75 a month for the miata and now pay 105 a month for both the s60 r I just bought and the miata. Either way take pictures and pm me if you want more info.

Sticker says 29 highway. You can generally beat that on steady driving.
JP4 tuner has a +80hp/+100 tq map on stock intake/exhaust, plus an economy highway map. Plus it's only $479 and not dealer detectable when removed. Allegedly.

If you're going to spend all that money on that baller ride, you HAVE to get a chip. It's completely reversible. It's Unamerican if you don't.
A friend of mine is an engineer at VAC motorsports. I'm totally skeptical of using a signal modifier, but he's one of three guys I would ever trust with my car. Period and he approves it. Let me know if you want to get in touch with him and pick his brain.

plus it's not going to LET you drive nicely enough to get that kind of mileage. but if you do, let me know so I can show my wife that a 4dr turbo bimmer gets as good mileage as the civic we have. and has a warranty.

Easy enough for me. I'm in sales. 1,000 mile weeks are not uncommon. Hundred mile chunks between touching brakes are an every day occurrence. My Explorer a few vehicles back went 175,000 miles before the first set of brake pads. If anyone can break 30mpg highway, I will.

UPDATE: Picked up the car today. Condition is better than I had hoped. Body pretty much perfect, one tiny ding that could be PDR'ed easily, one scratch that didn't buff out, interior is perfect, they put in new factory floormats and put on brand new tires.
Drove it about 300 miles today. Pleased with the ride, firm but compliant and quiet. As much as I would have liked a Sport with the larger wheels, tighter suspension and better seats, the standard will be perfect for a mile muncher.
Getting right at 28.5 mpg average so far with a couple of WOT runs, lol.
Pretty spunky car. Also happy with the automatic. Even with stock exhaust it has a nice note when wrapped up.
So, $479 will buy +80WHP and +100TQ. Don't know if I will go there or not but it won't be until spring for sure. I want to make sure everything shakes out first. Picked it up with 24,996 on the clock.
I woke up twice last night with buyer's remorse. That feeling was gone by noon.
Alas, no pics. I'm still in KC and no phone on POS blackberry.

OK, just to report. This week was 660 miles on mixed driving - either 80mph interstate or in town, not babying it - just driving normally I used 23.4 gallons. So 28.2 mpg. The cumulative average per the computer that was reset when I got it was 28.3 so very close to calculated.
I'm sure at highway speeds this would pull 30 easily. 80 is pushing a lot of air.
