When was the last time you went 750mph? Without a vehicle.

He did break it. Speed of sound decreases as pressure decreases:

When he was spinning out of control at 700mph I figured he was toast. From the looks on the faces of the people at Roswell it seemed like they thought the same thing.

Sucks he didn't free fall just a bit longer, but still bad *** as ****.

I was far more impressed than I expected I would be. Can you imagine climbing on to the door sill of the capsule at 120,000' and looking out over the Earth. Incredible. Then when he saluted and leaned forward and disappeared into the blue background of Earth, I got major chills. I'm all about thrills, but I don't think I would have the ***** to do it. It sounds cool now sitting on the ground, but I know once I got up there, I'd probably **** my pants and back out.

Did anyone watch the press conference? It was interesting to hear him speak about the spin and the plans if he couldn't get it under control. They said unofficial speed was 833 mph.

I'm surprised he didn't have a gage for altitude or something similar. Leaving the deployment of the chute at pure intuition could've been dangerous.

Nope, didn't see it. What were they going to do? Sent the Hulk to catch him? :v

Meh.

Alexey Leonov and Ed White both went mach 22 in nothing but a spacesuit back in 1965.

Old news is old.
