Talking Legacy GT on the backroads for an hour!

So my friend picked up her Legacy GT today and she brought it right over for me to check it out. I took a peek under the hood, inside and outside around the car, I really love the look of them. The interior is thankfully the black leather with brushed aluminum. The fake wood **** some of them come with is ******* horrible looking.

So off we went, her driving at first....lol. I could tell she was nervous. She would give it gas and just as the turbo was spooling up....she would let off the gas! I know its going to take her time to get used to it, but I needed to know how fast the car was.

So she pulled over and let me drive for about an hour on the backroads away from all the traffic. First, I got right in to the shift-tronic mode and tested that. I liked it, I got all the way to redline and it was quick at getting me into the next gear. Not sure that I would ever use the -/+ controls on the steering wheel though. A world different than my friends Mazda3 ****-tronic.

Then I tried sport mode, which was my favorite by far. I am a manual transmission dude, but the car moves plenty fast in sport mode. I played with the car as I would my miata (maybe a hair less), and I was 100% impressed. In and out of corners the car feels very solid, uphill acceleration is superb, and overall the car was just a blast to drive.

Positives are definitely the stock stereo for one. Sounds ******* awesome at level 5 volume with some adjustments to the speaker levels. The dual climate control is like heaven compared to my miata. And really the most impressive thing about this car to me was the acceleration. I could not get over how great it picked up and kept pulling. Granted I couldn't drive it like I stole it, seeing she just picked it up today. But she was cool about letting me give it a road test.

Negatives. The only thing I didn't really like were the brakes. And that has nothing to do with the car itself really. But for the power the car has, the brakes were very spongy and I had to nearly have the pedal to the floor to get the car stopped. I told her to give the dealer a ring and let them know it needs to be looked at. I would do it for her, but I figure at the dealer her warranty will cover it. And the cup holders seem like a pain in the ******* ***, but she's not into the whole eating/drinking in the car anyway, so that's a non-issue really.

She loves the car and I'm stoked for her. Its in amazing shape, and she got the crazy *** extended warranty with it as well, so its really perfect for her new daily. She went from a 98' malibu, to a 00' altima, now to the 05' legacy GT. Its really a step up and she deserves it all the way. I just hope she is safe, smart, and learns how to drive the car before she tries to get crazy with it. She said the first mod will be wheels and tires and a IPOD connector. I personally think the Perrin exhaust for the GT's sound like pure sex, but I'm sure that's wayyy down the road.

Having my miata out of commission for the past couple months, I forgot what it was like to drive a performance car! If I don't end up putting the new engine/tranny in my envoy, I might be looking into a used GT. Just wanted to share the experience with you guys!

The Leg drives much more refined than the WRX. LEG > Impreza for a touring type car. It's a much better sedan. If I do up another Suby it'll be a Leg GT or Outback XT.

Maybe it's my age!?

if by more refined you mean smoother and quieter, then yes, i absolutely agree...the car is much more expensive than a impreza, and most of that money goes towards a better interior and other things non engine related. however as far as responsiveness and overall performance is concerned, the impreza is superior..

the age statement im TOTALLY starting to relate to buddy, my fat *** (gained 45lbs over the past 5 months) is starting to lean towards softer/refined cars more and more every day

Yea, that's exactly why she wanted a Legacy. She got the Legacy because its more of the big brother of the subie's. The Forester is blah, the Impreza is like the little kid, and the Legacy is the all around performer. It was super comfortable inside, not cheap looking at all, roomy, exactly how a sedan should be.

I think the new Impreza's look awful. When we first went to the dealer the salesmen was like "look here at the Impreza, this is perfect for you". I looked at her and said "that is ugly as **** Lauren, you don't want that". I think the guy was a little pissed but **** him, his dealership didn't get the sale anyway cause he was such a **** the entire time.

The power is perfect for her, really its too much, but I doubt she'll ever want more. But I do see wheels and tires, maybe exhaust, and lip spoiler in the future.

I test drove a WRX years back and it was ok, but the Legacy had me ear to ear grinning the entire drive yesterday.
