About to go over to an aunts house for our typical family festivities. Not many in my family are much in the mood this year. Bah humbug!

I wish I could fist a turkey! This is the first year in a long time that I haven't cooked anything.

Just found out we got some kind of "premium" turkey with no legs, and therefore, no dark meat. Thanksgiving fail.

My Thanksgiving so far.

My dad cried before we ate. My mom made me some baller-*** lasagna (all my friends think its weird to eat that for turkey day but i dont care). And I drove my car today! Missed that boost, nothing like spinnin' tire. Going to chill with friends later. No work Friday

Speaking of brutal turkey insertions...

I did mine last year on the smoker side of my grill, attempting the Turkey version of "Beer Can Chicken". Pretty much the same, but you cook longer (duh) and use a Foster's can instead of a regular beer can.

My friend and I were having a cook-off. I loaded mine in a big *** pot to take to his house and when I tried to lift it out, the bird split in half it was so tender.

Good times.

We brined our turkey a couple days ago, then this morning it got stuffed with apples, pears, onion, garlic, sage, thyme, I forget what else, then sprinkled some poultry rub on it and grilled it for a few hours on the old Weber kettle grill. Kingsford hickory charcoal imparted a nice smoky character and it came out with just a thin layer of crispiness on the outside, nice and juicy inside. In years past we had done our turkeys exclusively in the oven, but the bird came out much better off the grill.

In addition to the bread, our dressing had about 2 pounds of various style mushrooms, and spinach, pine nuts and goat cheese. We also had sweet potatoes with a candied walnut crumble on top, and also twice-baked potatoes (regular white potatoes) with some cheese in them. Some homemade cranberry sauce and fresh baked rolls. For dessert, pumpkin pie and also a pecan tart with a chocolate crust and some chocolate, toffee, and a touch of bourbon in the filling. The in-laws have been here all week, so we didn't do it all ourselves, and we wouldn't have made as much food otherwise.

The day after Thanksgiving last year was the day we found out my wife was preggers, and my daughter is 3.5 months old now. Crazy to think how much has changed for us in the last year. Enjoy the holidays, you glorious bastards!
