Default Smokin Deal on Canon T2i, get yours!

Been shopping around and finally jumped on this deal! Its the best deal around (Literally, I have looked EVERYWHERE) as long as you don't live in NY or NJ since those are the only two states that have to be charged tax. The regular price for this T2i two lens kit (18-55mm & 55-250mm) is $1200. They take $200 off that and then for whatever reason another $50 comes off when you add it to your shopping cart. Shipping is free and since I'm in CT no taxes either. $954 out the door....its back ordered, but I don't mind waiting since I saved quite a bit. Best buy has the same package for $1029, but after taxes and a 10% coupon I had, it still came out to $1050 or so ...the way they play games with discounts/offers and coupons.

I'm not a 100% sure I'm going to keep the 55-250 lens since I could sell that to offset the cost of the camera another $200, bringing the total cost to $754, but I gotta think about it. Anyways, if anyone else is in the market for a camera, check this deal out!

Hooray for grey market... at least I'm betting it is. Most of those NY internet places are.

Should cause 0 issue though, but sometimes warranty stuff can be tricky. For awhile, Canon said they wouldn't honor grey market warranties. Mind you... that was like 6 years ago that I remember that from.

IDK, Adorama is a fairly large and reputable online vendor. The $200 off is a instant rebate from canon. That deal can be had at a few places. I'm thinking the extra $50 off is an attempt to set themselves apart from all the other companies selling the same package. They probably figure that they will make up the $50 loss with accessories each person buys when they buy the camera...

A d40 is nothing compared to this t2i but in experienced hands a d40 could produce similar photo's. The t2i is a far superior camera though. Looks like a sweet buy, when will you be gettin it?

If you go to B and H Photo, they will list "USA" and "international" versions of a lot of cameras. The "international" versions are usually cheaper. I think the only difference is the warranty (and perhaps the default language of the manual).

Well put....its not the camera that takes great photographs, but the photographer. I'll admit I'm a noob to DSLR's, but I think the T2i will be a solid platform that will last me years to come (feature wise). Its on backorder, but I called them this morning and they said they were expecting a shipment this coming up week. Not sure how many people pre-ordered before me, so I'm expecting it in two weeks or so. God I can't wait, I should have gotten a DSLR a LONG time ago!

Abes has the T2i standard package with just the 18-55 lens for $749 shipped. No need to try to sell off that tele lens that way.

Keeping an eye out on this thread. I just started looking for a DSLR yesterday. Best buy had a couple package deals, but I'm not sure how I feel about them.

If anyone is curious, I just called Adorama and they said their shipment is coming in on May 20th....I guess they have a **** load of orders though

Where do you see that? That is a great deal as well! Although the more I've been thinking, I think I'm going to keep the 55-250 lense.

I've worked the best buy deals up and down, but it just can't compete with some of these online retailers. Only way I see best buy being cheaper is with a employee discount, that is if they even allow that on new items like this.

I lied about May 20th. The website no longer shows it as backordered and my order status changed to packed!

The Abes price I saw was on a "todays" specials list yesterday. Don't see it there today. Today they have the TLi on there.

I vote focusing the dough on the glass first. And that doesn't necessarily mean expensive. Canon makes a plastic body (weighs nothing) 50mm f1.8 prime that's incredibly sharp - $90. Photodo is a great site for researching glass. There's also Photozone.de. And FredMiranda.com which also has a good forum.

btw- you realized you just stepped into a hobby that has equal potential to drain your wallet as your car?

Congrats on the new equipment! +1 on a good prime lens! I went with a 35mm instead of a 50mm, but it just depends on what you prefer. See if anyone local to you has some lenses that they'd be willing to let you try out, then you'll have a better idea of what you want/need. And do everything you can to stay off of auto mode.
