The only problem is the stupid ******* red bezel. Samsung calls it ToC (Touch of Color). Somebody at Samsung marketing decided that more people would be lured from other manufacturers if they very lightly colored the bezel red ON AN ENTIRE PRODUCT LINE WITH NO OTHER CHOICE THAN RED than people who would have bought the TV because it's ******* awesome but can't get past the stupid ******* red ****. It's perfect otherwise... and for something I'll probably have for 10 years, it's gotta be 100% perfect.
Sam, if there's a Costco in the area check them out as well. The sales staff won't be as knowledgeable, but if you've done your homework it doesn't matter.

They extend the manufacturer's warranty to 2 years and offer 90 return period.

Yup, have been reading and homework'ing for the last 3 hours and have decided Plasma might be the ticket instead. I was really hoping to end up with something in the 55" range, but nobody makes anything that size anymore unless you find a DLP on closeout.

Plasmas are 46/50/58/60
LCD's are 40/42/46/52

You might find the odd in between, but a 52/53 Plasma doesn't exist. I've been researching heavily the Panny 50PZ85U, $1600@Sears. The exact same TV in Costco is $1550 but they call it the TH-C50FD18.

Still undecided, but the Charger game is at 2pm on Sunday, so I'll have my **** squared away by then or the wife will have my ***.

Now that's a great wife! Get a TV for the game or else!

I love it, I wish mine was like that.

For anybody... when you're shopping for big-ticket electronics like this, don't forget that everybody price-matches everybody else for in-store ****. Most companies advertise they WON'T price-match something you saw online... but I've know guys who do.

For example. Abes-of-Maine consistently has the best prices BAR NONE for just about everything on the internet. Whereas most guys want $2000 for product X, Abes will always have it for $1970. They almost always do free shipping and no tax on the big-ticket stuff too. You can print out your "CART" with the product in it and take it to BB... "Hey Mr. Salesperson, I can buy this from Abes tonight and have it by next weekend, or you can work some magic on that computer and I can walk out of here with one right now." It can work... your attitude towards the guy will go a long way to getting the deal.

Sears almost always has 10% or 24mo no interest if you use your Sears card.

Costco has some killer deals as well. A lot of companies will take a standard model, add an extra port to it, and run off a batch for Costco/Sams/BJ's and give it a comletely new model number. Figuring out what Costco Model matches what Regular Model is just a matter of going to AVSforum.com and searching or often they'll be on the Company Website.

You'll also want to be just a little patient and try to go back about 6 months and see what each item has been selling for historically. The model I'm looking at "for the next hour until I find something else" is selling at the Exchange for $1600... but on Black Friday, you could get it for $1500 and ALSO a free BluRay player. A shitty player, but that's what Craigslist is for.

Rumors about price-drops the week before the Super Bowl are true.
AWESOME deals to be found on open-box items the week after the Super Bowl when ******* dipshit scum-of-humanity douchebags return TV's they bought on Friday just to watch the game.

You guys will definitely know what I end up with.
The Samsung PN-50A550 Plasma is looking too good for $1600 plus whatever deal I score.

PLEASE go look at the friggin Panasonics. Last time I say this.

For the room, sounds like LCD might be more appropriate.

Done.
I bought the Panny TH-C50FD18 at Costco:
Costco - Panasonic 50" 1080P Plasma HDTV

It's an extra $250 off in the store for a total of $1200. The Costco website does not advertise the sale... it's still $1450 on the website. This is one of the standard Panasonic models that's been re-named for bulk store sales.

Here are the specs:
http://www2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs...221168|245171|
The only difference in the models is the Costco one comes with a 15pin PC input for video and audio input jack. I've read a lot in the PZ80 thread at avsforum.com and this TV seems to be the best bargain in 50" 60hz plasmas. So far I couldn't be happier. I've made some basic adjustments to the picture but it's too soon to tell anything. The true test will be watching games this weekend. Go Chargers!

In any case, I bought it at Costco... in 3 months if I'm not totally pleased or a better deal comes along, I'll take it back.

Looks like a pretty good tv. Coming from a 27'' off brand 10+ year old TV, Im more than pleased with my 56'' Samsung Series 6 DLP projection, which I got about 6 months ago. Crystal clear HD for less cost. I prefer the look of projection over Plasma and LCD. More cinematic or something.

I just ordered some cables and an Antenna from Monoprice.
I got:
2x 1.5' for Sources-Receiver
1x 4' for Receiver-TV
1x 6' for just-in-case
1x HDTV amplified antenna for over-the-air stuff
All for $48... not too bad.

I debated about the antenna since a $10 UHF model from RadioShack will probably work just as well... but this one is small and will hide easily behind the unit, so deal.

I'm gonna hook up my 360 later today after I visit Gamestop and pick up COD4... we'll see how she does there.

Now I'm looking for a small'ish corner TV stand to hold the thing. The wife is being picky about the style. I just want there to be enough room behind it so I can build a new sub. I think I already linked the driver I'm going to use... how about 250watts through this little guy:
[ SoundSplinter Subwoofers - RL-i 8" Subwoofer Information ]
Yup, that's a 15lb magnet on an 8" driver.

Just got back from Bestbuy a little bit ago and I made my purchase. Picked this 58" Samsung plasma.

Samsung - 58" 1080p Flat-Panel Plasma HDTV - PN58A550

I also got them to price match Circut City.
Circuit City

The only thing is that they didn't have it in stock so I will have to wait until Friday night to start enjoying it.
