Default Can't get into my laptop, help!

So I setup a password the other day and now I can't remember it for the life of me. And its the Administrator acct. Can someone tell me how I can possibly reset it.

FYI its a Dell Latitude CPX with Windows XP.

TIA!

You download the CD image to another machine, burn the image to a CD. Pop the CD in the drive, make the CD drive bootable in the bios, wait for the thing to load, follow on screen instructions.

The site explains EVERYTHING.

You can do it papi, i know you can.

Boot in safe mode with command prompt (XP has a hidden admin acct w/o a password that becomes available in safe mode)
Open command prompt
Type "net user user_name *" (whatever your acct name is, followed by *)
Enter a new password
Confirm new password
Done
...that's worked before for me, anyway.

This only works if the bios supports CD emulation, or USB emulation. I dont know which way it is, but you cant just put a CD image on a USB and expect it to boot.

Thats a pretty slick way of doing it, though the program I linked too is simpler in its approach. It just changes the password in the windows files instead of brute forcing it.

What program did you burn the image with, and what options did you set to burn it? If its an old machine you gotta setup the ISO something or other, the length of files setting, to be the dos compatible or some garbage like that.

See if this helps:

I Forgot My Administrator Password!

If not just google: winxp password retrieve or reset.

I did one of these procedures about 4 years ago and it worked. There are a few different ones around.
