'Tis ok. It's looking like I'm gonna be tied up at the station pretty late this evening. I'll grease your pole later.

You choice of operating system has nothing to do with your status as a tool. But, OpenBSD FTW!

That was pretty clever. Completely changed everything and allowed for the new story. Loved it.

Meh. Real men don't need operating systems- they code in Assembly.

Seriously though. I've been pleasantly surprised by the various franchise reboots that have been taking place in these recent years, generally without regard for my opinion of whatever series they were based upon.

Take Batman, for instance. Now, I kinda liked the 1989 Keaton / Nicholson version. It retained some of the comic silliness of the TV series, but worked well on the big screen. By contrast, Batman Begins and the Dark Knight were radical departures from this tone. Gritty, dark, a bit hopeless even, but they really pulled it off.

BSG is an even better example. I simply abhored the original series. Wooden acting, stupid plots, enemies who I wouldn't be afraid of while lost in Harlem at 3am (much less while sitting in a well-equipped fighter plane). Why the **** is that kid allowed on the bridge (and on all the away missions?) Why is the galaxy absolutely teeming with life which they never noticed before? Why are they using scare and valuable parts to build those stupid robotic dogs? But when Ron Moore got his hands on it- whoa! Even though it could easily have just been an orgasm of CG, SFX and technobabble, they really made a workable socio-political thriller out of it. Easily the best hour-a-week of television since the Sopranos cut to black in mid sentan

So I'm keeping an open mind here.

I kinda liked the original series. Not a religious fanatic about it, but watchable. TNG was ok, but they pussified humanity a bit much for my tastes. The even-numbered films were great- loved Kahn, got a few laughs with the whales, and Undiscovered Country, hell, I can still remember pretty much what seat I was in at the theater when that one hit the screen.

But still, I think I enjoyed them more because they were Star Trek than because they were masterpieces of cinema.

So who knows? Maybe when I go to see this one, alone in a strange city I might add (thanks, Sam), I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Of course, I said the same thing when the movie adaptation of Wing Commander was announced...

I cant wait till they make a TV series out of it.

God damn its gonna be confusing thinking about two separate time lines. But I guess this had to be done. If they stuck to the original story line it would have been pretty boring, and only yielded this one movie.
