So I was cruisin around tonight looking for anybody who wanted to play. I pull out onto a 2 lane highway after I see a yellow Solstice go by. I take my time and slowly catch up to the car to see the GXP emblem on it. I pull up next to it and it was some older guy, like mid 50's? So I hit the gas and vent my BOV in his ear and then I slowly coast away. We went for about 3 miles at like 60mph until we got to a light, then the guy gets in the right lane and looks over at me. I'm like, "this dude isn't gonna do ****, he doesn't care to race." I was wrong, the light turns green and he chirps his tires and I hear turbo spool. So I nail it, slam 2nd, the boost goes right to 13psi and I blow by him like he's standing still. I shift into 3rd and ease up to see he's still tryin, so I let him get his front bumper even with my back bumper and I hit it again, and there's like 6 car lengths on us now. I'd say I am pretty happy considering my head has leaky valves, I am running a shitty tune, and I still have the stock clutch. I'm pretty sure the Solstice was BONE stock, but still, it was like a Z06 vette racing a stock 87 5.0 mustang. Horsepower to weight ratio is what ownin a miata is all about.

I know this... I just found out how slow they really are. Like I said, it was like a Z06 racing a stock 5.0. I'm just glad it happened, cause some of my friends were like, "you should buy a Solstice GXP, they're fast." I kept telling them that they are wrong, in a huge way, but what do I know, right? That comes from the same friend who has an 02 LS-1 camaro with minor bolt ons and it runs 12.90's on street tires. I tell him all the time, "when I get a clutch and get my head re-done, then you're done." All I get around here is crap from owning this car. It's either a *** car, or it'll never be faster than high 13's, they say. **** those jerk-offs. It's all a stereo-type. If miata's came out, and Burt Reynolds drove a miata in Smokey and the Bandit, then it would be badassed, right? If nobody but women and older men bought Camaros and Mustangs, then camaros and mustangs wouldn't be cool. Nobody understands this. So how come I get busted on cause my car says "miata" on it, but this dude I know drives a Tiburon. It has a worked block, a big turbo and an EMS-Pro, and he spanks modded 03-04 cobras all day long like it's a joke, and nobody busts on him, and it's front wheel drive! I think the problem is, people I hang out with don't like to be beaten by a "Miata". They keep egging me on to go buy a C5 vette. I guess so when they get beaten by that, then it'll be a respectable car that beat em?

Where I'm from, if it's fast, it's fast. You have to respect someone willing to work with a platform not widely supported and even if so, isn't a "respectible" car.

My LT1 will run 13.0's and I always get **** for mullet, ZZ Top, marrying my sister, ect.

First of all, ZZ top is cool, depends how big the mullet is, and is your sister hot? Back to the Miata racing around scene...
Tonight I was supposed to go to Numidia Raceway with my friend Ryan who has the LS-1 Camaro. His car has Mickey Thompson E/T street drag tires, it has a bigger throttle body, and air induction, a flowmaster exhaust, and I'm not sure what else. He dyno'd at 355 to the wheels, and G-tech'd at 12.9 in the 1/4. So we drive up to the track, and it gets rained out. So we're driving home, and there's no rain...so I'm in race mode. So I call his cell (while I'm behind him.) I ask him if he has his G-tech with. He says yes, but he'd have to pick his kids up and he wants to go home first, blah blah blah, so I'm like "how about we just line up?" He's like, "let's fucken do it, but cops sit all over 309 below Tamaqua." So I say, "let's turn onto 443, cause it's like a 3 mile straight strip...there's a tractor dealer...let's turn around there and wait for traffic to clear. I'll take the left lane. I'll pull next to you, honk the horn 3 times, and then it's on." So he agrees. We get to the tractor dealer and wait for traffic to clear. He pulls out and spins 1st and 2nd, I pull out behind him...he stops in the right lane and starts to stage. I pull up next to him, I hit the horn 3 times, and I pull out in 1st nice and easy, then I lay on it. We were side by side through my 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. I hit 4th and he started to pull on me. We hit like 110 and he left off, I pass him and am like "holy fucken wow." He had a 1/2 a car on me. So we drive to this gas station. He gets out and says, "why are you smilin?" and I say, "I almost had you" he says "you never had me" and his wife goes, "you guys are losers...." This is the same guy that yesterday told me to sell my miata and by a C5, so I said to him, "what did you think of that run? I still have the stock clutch, my head has bad seals, guides, possibly burnt valves...I can't even believe how that went." He goes..."don't you dare sell this car...this ****** runs. How much boost were you pushin?" "I think I hit 13psi, and the run happened so fast, I shoulda datalogged it, but I think my AFR was like 10.5:1?" "Yo, that thing is low 13's for sure...you get a clutch and fix your head, you're high 12's."
So now I am floatin on a cloud...finally my work to my "gay miata" pays off and I get the respect I deserve.

Street racing is irresponsible.

I've got a couple of friends that are into that whole "there's no replacement for displacement" and "if it's from japan it's a ricer" garbage. Like their camaros are a way of life. I swear, there's something about f-bodies that turns people into mondo douchebags.

Street racing is irresponsible...but it's not like there were spectators, traffic, or houses around. I used to be an F-body enthusiast. Then I realized, this heavy assed car would get spanked by something lighter with less motor, such as a miata. My friend is the kind of guy who'll buy anything that you can page through Jeg's or Summit and buy parts for. Before his LS-1 camaro, he had an LT-1 Trans Am, and before that he had a '90 5.0. BTW, his LS-1 car has 3.42 gears. If he had 4.11's or something like that, I woulda got walked. He also has a wet Nitrous kit on it, with a 75HP jet that he can interchange to a 150 in seconds. He never sprayed it yet while running the quarter, but I predict high 11's.

I'm surprised he didn't pull the, "Oh, I wasn't really racing.." or "I'm running 1/2 throttle" bullshit. Thats typically what I get from Camaro/Mustang owners after they get, well, owned by a mazdaspeed6 4door sedan.. Yet Oddly, they'll never give me the 'real' run. Wonder what thats about?

Look at the bright side, man... If you ever lose to something you might've thought you'd win against, at least they'll never go around bragging about beating a miata...

Nice run on the GXP.........speaking of Chevrolets:
I was one of those guys who was giving a wake-up call from a ricer car (before I got a Miata) I got a 1971 Chevelle 350ci 4 spd. a guy in a Honda civic was trying to mess with me so I got on it and to my suprise he started to gain on me by 90 mph
so I had to rethink the ricer thing. (power to weight) Got me a Miata and now that little car will eat my Chevelle for lunch and get 33 mpg as compaired to 10 mpg with the Chevy.........................and a lot more fun to drive !

Hey, **** them.

Just because our car is small, doesnt make it a *** car :( I guess it does, but really, I get the same bullshit as you. "That slow *** turd, never gonna be anything" And even after boost "Your car is still gay, never gonna be as fast as anything respectible" And even after 12psi, waxing all of my friends cars by at least several car lengths by 65mph, I still get flack for having a ***** car.


I think its the fact that people are afraid of getting their *** handed to them by a car they don't think is cool.

Then again, who cares? I bought this car for my, like you probably bought it for you, and the victory of wiping their grins off and replacing them with an open drooling jaw is worth it

But hey, I enjoy listening to a variety of faggish pop music at red lights while next to any sort of contender, including stangs, comaros, swapped civics/tegs, boosted hondas, sti's etc.

Makes for an interesting end.

I drive around and beat "manly cars" all day long while listening to "Sunglasses at Night" by Corey Hart. Might as well make the stereotype fit. They laugh at me at the light, at then when I see their face in my rear view, I'm the only one left laughing. The opinionated giggle is nothing compared to the shock of defeat.

I would pimp a GXP, I would get the boost upgrade from GM, and then go from there. Starting with 300hp at the motor is pretty damn good start. Plus, those Ecotech motors can handle power.

My buddy has the regular Solstice and he wanted to play one day...He no longer plays.
