So, what have we got today? Why, it appears to be a rather well-equipped 1992 Mazda Miata. Ok, I know what you’re thinking. Miatas are hairdresser’s cars, right? Not so, my fellow eBay traveller! This bad boy is 2,100 lbs of turbocharged, water-injected, Megasquirt-equipped fury and ready for action. Why, you might even be mistaken for CHUCK NORRIS’s hairdresser cruising around in this vehicle. Yes, this Miata is offered for sale only to the very MANLIEST of men (or women). My friend, if it was possible for a car to sprout chest hair and a five o'clock shadow, this Miata would look like Tom Selleck. It is just that awesome. Finally, you can show the world that you are pure Y chromosome, 100% alpha-dog.

Let’s be clear on one thing: This may be an amazingly reliable daily driver with only 71,863 miles on the original engine, but it was never intended to drive to the mall so you can pick up that adorable shirt at Abercrombie & Fitch that you had your eye on. It wasn't meant to transport you to yoga class or Linens & Things. No, that's what your Prius is for. If that's the kind of car you're looking for, then just do us all a favor and stop reading right now.

No, this four-wheeled hellcat from Planet Kickass is equipped with a 210 HP engine to outrun the angry fathers of the entire cheerleading squad, a Torsen limited-slip differential that’ll help you maintain traction while tearing up the twisty roads of Beverly Hills on your way to visit Hugh Hefner at his private estate, adjustable-height coilover suspension to keep you glued to the road (and at a stylish ride height while you’re at it) and an ACT HD clutch package which guarantees that your pedantic weakling of a butler will end up walking like Dr. House just from driving it out of the garage.

Do you want to offer me a vehicle in trade? Great. If it’s a Koenigsegg CCX or a Pagani Zonda F, then we’ve got a deal. Anything else is liable to earn you a Burmese-roundhouse-sphincter-kick with a follow up three fingered eye-jab. Would it hurt? Heck yeah. Ok, in all seriousness, I guess you probably want some specifics. As hard as it is for me to actually sit down and write in a calm, coherent fashion (I just got back from driving this car through the mountains with a pack a Russian spies on my tail) I suppose I can give it a shot.

The engine itself (longblock) is stock, just as the factory delivered it. Doesn’t leak a single drop of oil- I’ve replaced every one of the seals on it as well as the head gasket over the past few years, mostly because I’m ----. Ditto the transmission and the differential. If you find something on the garage floor under this car, blame the dog. It’s got an aluminum radiator, a factory oil cooler transplanted over from the ’94 and later style engines, and the timing belt was replaced a few years ago.

The turbo system started out as a Greddy kit. I’m still running the original Greddy manifold and TD04H-15G turbo, but apart from the all-important CARB sticker, those are the only parts of the kit that are still on the car. The exhaust system is a full 2.5” setup from turbine to tailpipe, with a Magnaflow catalytic converter.

Despite what you might think, it’s not terribly loud. Folks will know that there’s something under the hood when you step on the gas, but you’re not going to wake up the neighbors when you leave for work in the morning, and you won't be mistaken for a rattle-trap Honda Civic with one of those annoying coffee-can mufflers. My philosophy is that a vehicle should not attract undue attention to itself.

Engine management… The vehicle is running a Megasquirt ECU, driving Ford Racing 465cc injectors, coil-on-plug ignition, and an Innovate LC-1 wideband EGO2 sensor. A custom made (by me) 36-1 crank trigger pickup has replaced the flakey and unreliable stock cam-driven sensor. The boost controller is a TurboXS dual-adjustable HPBC, currently set to about 14 PSI.

Water injection is a DevilsOwn progressive system, equipped with a 5 GPH nozzle mounted just forward of the throttle body. It is fed by a 5 liter tank mounted in the trunk opposite the battery. Unlike most trunk-mounted setups, this one doesn’t kill the available trunk space. I like being able to carry things.

The Torsen differential is from a 1995 Miata, as the diffs that shipped in the ’90-’93 cars were notoriously weak (specifically the ring & pinion gears). You won’t be breaking this one with anything less than drag slicks.

Air Conditioning? This is a convertible. The top goes down. Men know that. We're not worried about our hair getting all messed up! We're not worried about being able to hear Celine Dion's high notes over the wind noise! No, we're rocking out to Metallica cranked full blast! Right?!?

Speaking of the top, it’s actually in pretty good shape as you can see from the photos. I had it replaced by California Fabworks in Carlsbad in 2006. It’s got a full size glass window (the originals were plastic), and no rips or tears at all. The seam at the lower corners of the window has started to delaminate a bit, but it does not leak internally. Take it to an auto upholstery shop and get it fixed right if it really bothers you.

Wheels & Tires- you get to choose here, as I’ve got three different sets to pick from. There’s a set of 17x7.5 Ronal wheels with full-tread Kumho Ecsta tires, a set of 15x7 Enkei wheels wearing Bridgestone RE-01R tires that are just about out of tread but still sticky, and I recently got a set of the super lightweight semi-hollow-spoke 14x6 wheels that were factory optional from ’94-’97, they’ve got all-season tires on them right now (full tread) but put on a set of Direzza Z1s and these be quite good. I mounted all three sets onto the car in various pictures, so you can get an idea of what they look like.

The car has got the body of an 18 year old. By which, of course, I mean that the paint is a trifle faded (particularly on the plastic bumpers) and it has a few nicks and dings. It’s all original, of course- no wrecks, no bondo, no rust. Shines up pretty nicely after a wash & wax as you can see in the photos, but don’t come crying when the car doesn’t look like it just rolled off the showroom floor.

Now, a few words about emissions legality. This car has obviously been modified. The original ECU is long gone, as are the charcoal canister and a few other minor gizmos. It’s not as though I’ve deliberately gone through and stripped out all of the emissions components, just the ones that were in my way.

For California residents, this of course means that the Greddy CARB EO sticker which is still on the firewall is technically void. Lo, it served me well all these many years. Whether or not your friendly local smog tech will take note any of this is none of my business. The vehicle does have a catalytic converter, and it passed a tailpipe test a few years back, when I was running a different ECU (Greddy eManage ultimate) but the same injectors, cat, and whatnot. That being said, I make no warrantees of any kind regarding emissions compliance where you live.

I’ve owned this car since 2004, and it has a shiny, clean title. I recently moved from Florida back to California, and it still has the Florida title and registration.
