Banning guns will not end gun violence, banning guns will not prevent tradegies like this one, limiting rounds will not prevent this either.

What would have prevented this is one person who had broken the law and had brought their gun to school or who had been an off-duty officer who was carrying. Now back to our nutcase who caused this whole tragedy.

1. Not a US Citizen <- Illegal to carry a gun
2. Carried a concealed weapon to school <- Once again Illegal
3. Murdered 30+ people <- Seems like he broke yet another law
4. Discharged a firearm in public <- Against the Law
5. Brandished a weapon <- Another law broken

The list goes on and on. This guy didn't care about breaking the law, banning guns probably wouldn't have slowed him down, one way or another he would have had a gun even if he had to steal one.

+1 mark you so smart. Even though i dont feel the need to carry a gun, that doesn't mean i dont plan on defending myself with extreme prejudice it is just abit more personal to do it with your bare hands or whatever is around me.

Believe me... I am capable of doing it with my bare hands, just sometimes you need the right tool for the job... bringing a knife to a gunfight is just the wrong answer.

Personally I have never had to pull my gun out, but I'd rather be the person who has the gun and has never needed it than the person who needed the gun and never had it.

It appears that one of the guns, the glock, may have purchased legally. It is reported that he had a reciept for it in his back pack. The .22 had the serial numbers filed off.

I wonder how long it is going to take for the lawyers to start feeding off of this? I imagine the University's legal department is scrambling to cover their seriously exposed asses. I would imagine that the campus security will be the sacrificial lamb in this one.

The first knee jerk reaction is obviously gun control. Next is probably going to be immigration. I suspect this whole thing is going to get very ugly very fast.

It's a damn shame.

Campus security on ALL public campus buildings are a joke...you can walk in/out of most buildings...on/off campus...etc. Very small 'police forces'

Our campus security doesn't even carry guns, the best they have is pepper spray. I wouldn't expect them to stop someone that is armed. I do expect that they should communicate any on going risks to the population.

It will be interesting to hear why the campus security assumed the guy left campus after killing the first two people.

It's a damn shame.

Huh? How do you figure that? How was the college grossly negligent? Is there any implicit agreement between the school and the students that says it will protect them from any and all threats? And how does one notify 20,000 students that there is emminent threat of danger?

If people demand tighter security and a highly trained police present on campuses I guess that can be done but expect your tuition costs to sky rocket. Even though this is indeed a tragedy of emmense proportions, I believe it to be an isolated occurence.

they closed the campus the first day of classes in Aug when an armed escaped convict was running around campus shooting cops.

I'm thinking, if I ran a school, and I was told there was a homicide in a dorm and the shooter was still at large, I wouldn't hold a meeting about it an hour later, and come up with a decision to email students over an hour later. I'd have the police go room by room in that dorm, close the campus by any means necessary, and wait until the all clear, or until you at least figure out wtf just happened....the fact that 99/100 of the students had no clue anything was going down is pretty crazy....but what do you expect, I mean how are you going to know....still it was bad judgment, but wasn't my call so what do I know.

And if they would've done that yesterday? It appears as the guy was still on campus after the first shooting and I suspect there still would've been plenty of victims for this suicidal nut to off already on campus even if they did shut it down.

The guy was hell bent on killing....bottom line.

he was most likely still in the dorm under lockdown. As soon as the dorm's lockdown was lifted, the second shooting happened a few minutes later.

I'd still like to err on the side of caution, even if he still went on a rampage elsewhere under campus lockdown, at least they tried, the email about the first shooting wasn't sent untill a few minutes before the second shooting.

When it's your job to maintain safety for these kids....err on safety. But i understand, who was to know? but the dude had ***** to kill two people in a dorm and was still at large...
