Default Watch where you fill up you charged mazda!

Filled up my car yesterday with 93. At 4K+ RPM started hearing this nasty rattling sound. Oil needle was jumping as well... Alas, I now know what ping sounds like.

My timing is set at 12deg and bipes at 6deg retard. Had to set bipes to pull 14deg to get rid of the ping... What the F did they fill it up with? diesel??

From previous experiences, privately run gas stations (smaller) tend to have worse gasoline for some reason. Anyone had to deal with anything like this before?

Yes, it happens. What happens most often is too much regular is purchased and they just blow the excess regular into the premium fuel tank unbeknown to the customer.

That really sucks, good thing you noticed it when you did. Hopefully it didn't damage anything.

Throw some octane booster up in there.

And go back and at the station manager.

yep lots of bad gas in KY as well shitty stations with leaky tanks old gas and all together crappy situation you need to be carefull where you buy and what. sometimes the 89 is better than the 93 at some pumps.

always go to stations that have 3 or 4 different pumps.instead of the just one pump does it all.
i always try and stay away from local stations.so far my miata has only seen mobil.

When I fill up at a station with one pump for all 3 varieties, I like to spray a gallon or so out on the ground to clear the line, before I fill up. I recommend smoking while you do this too.

Its only 92 octane too. I figured it would be ok, but I think I should just switch to a flux capacitor to get the extra octane.
