200-220whp will make you poop your pants daily. A Miata with this much power is an absolute beast in traffic, I'm sure more maneuverable than a Z06, and probably more fun. You may very well want more, while you are shitting your pants. But, if you know going in that to get much more will cost lots of moolah, you have to be happy with it or come up with some real funds.
I, too, say to go with at least a 2560+ range. I'm sure 2554 is fun, but the limitation may disappoint you. You will be right in the powerband of the 2560 on the road, anyway. The only iffy application of the 2560+ range is autocross, and this will be debated for as long as there are guys willing to run around the cones.

I dont even think i've crossed the 200hp mark and i'm having a blast with my car a year after boosting still. Fun on the track, fun on the autox course, great daily and I have a SR20 T25 (basically 2554) with full 3" exhaust from turbo back.
Sometimes I seriously consider going T3 but I just dont think its worth it at this point for my goals. I'm certainly not trying to break any power records.

This jives well with my recent testing. I've got a SR20DET T25 running about 12psi so I'm somewhere around 200whp and I just did some 0-60 testing with my old G-Tech Pro and I was getting around 5.4 seconds 0-60 with my inexperienced launching and a requesite shift to 3rd. I did a quick online search and found my times roughly in line with the list above. Not bad for $4000 out of pocket in my case. One interesting thing I found was this site which shows the 10 quickest cars under $25,000. Mazdaspeed 3 is the quickest 0-60 under $25,000. Nice to know I can beat one (to 60 at least) for 1/5 the cost!

Go 2560 for headroom to grow. Boost is an addiction. Wayne Curr is the exception not the rule. Most guys want more!
Brain, thanks for the tutorial. Tried it, still don't get it. Sorry, I'm middle aged. We had cassette tape drives on the computer in my high school and programmed in basic!

i too was thinking about an ls1 swap... but it simply costs too much (for me,) more work, and although i think i may want it, realistically its probably wayyyy too much power for me. i'd like to see 21, thanks.

I'm pretty sure I'm right around 200-210whp at 11psi on my t3. I've driven cars with smaller turbos and I have to say, I like mine a lot more. I get full spool by around 3700rpm and it pulls like a rocket all the way to redline, there is no drop-off. I'm actually contemplating going with a larger compressor+3" exhaust just for a little more kick. I don't put around town much though, so my opinion is biased towards highway and mountain driving. I still have a good usable power-band, but I don't need to get full spool by 2800-3000 to enjoy my car thoroughly.
Edit: I also regularly hang out with people Like 90GTK450(300+hp) and JayL(was over 400hp) so I'm kind of ruined :(.

Most likely a little bit. But I'd bet that a 50 trim t3 will support more horsepower and lower IATs.
I just realized that my original post kind of missed my point. You will always want more ( Wayne_Curr just doesn't know it yet ). I went with a t3 right off the bat because I knew that 200 would never be enough, and its a lot easier (and cheaper) to expand on a t3 footprint for big HP.

I've got full 12psi at around 2800-3000rpms in 4th. Power stops dropping off around 5500 but I dont notice it in daily driving. The car never really spends much time up there in daily driving. On the track I start to notice power dropping off around 6500 but that doesn't mean that it doesn't still pull hard.
I'm weird. I'm content with this power level as i'm trying to improve my driving more than anything else. I'm actually thinking of removing turbo stuff in order to spec miata my car (unless I can find a cheap tub to build one with). I really just want to get into racing, track days aren't going to keep me entertained for long.
