Default What do you think of this car?

I am currently looking for a AWD car and subaru comes to mind all the time, and I just love the GC8 stylings... with a sti motor. Is this worth checking out, and do you think the price is fair?

I saw a few of these listed online and I don't remember any for less than $10k so... I think something must be wrong with it. This is a fairly common conversion and is not super straightforward.

It looks a little riced out and possibly abused.

That is pretty cheap for that kind of setup/car IF DONE RIGHT.

I'd check it very carefully.

The conversion is actually not that complex. I've done a few. Nothing super hard. The condition of that sti engine, and more importantly its piston rings is a different story altogether

That is a low price for that swap (they usually go for 9 to 12k), make sure to look over it well.

As for wanting a car like that, I really really want one. When I get out of college I plan on doing that swap.

its in good shape, some paint scraches here and there, but no irratic idle, no weird sounds, no leaks, drives smooth... the bads are a cheap egay "jdm" steering wheel, scratched carbon fiber hood, and drilled holes where side skirts used to be. I found out that the ecu is cobb tuned, with invoice and reciept. he has a lot of cars, including an evo 2, and that supra. he is also selling the evo, but my insurance won't cover it cheap here in nv. what should I do?

If everything checks out, get it. Sounds like a good deal, and a fun car.

Reading the ad more carefully, its not a v8 STi swap. Its a 2 liter. The transmission is also the RA sti and not the bulletproof 6 speed. Taking that into consideration the price is not low at all.

Had it been the version 8 swap it would be worth 12k easy.
The way it is the price he's asking is average.

Im getting it, I jewed him down to 5700, and my personal loan is being processed and should be completed today! I just pointed out that I need to buy a new stock steering wheel w/ airbag, and new set of tires if I get it, since the front tires are different than the back, and worn past the first tread line. Crossing my fingers and hoping for the money to be in my account by noon! Ill take pics and a vid of my first drive.

Edit: also I made sure his fiance was around when dealing with the price... so when he complained, his woman took out the whip and said "We have too many cars!" Win to me.

You have no idea how important it is to do a compression test on those cars.

The #####1 weakness and problem with the EJ motors is shitty ringlands. 90% of the time its piston #4 due to the fuel system design being a hunk of ****, and ringlands being even shittier.

There's not much to it, and worth the time/effort.

We specialize in subaru's at our shop (my side job), stop by and we'll hook you up with a full on inspection if you want. I've got quite a few folks coming over from Reno to get **** done correctly and very cheap on their subaru's
