What super spiffy thing should I ride for $30-$50K???

I love driving fun/fast/interesting cars, but I hate paying to play. It would kill me if I felt like I owned a car that was depreciating more than $1000 or so per year. A friend of mine bought a 2011 GT3 last year, drove it for a year and sold it. I don't know the specifics, but can you imagine the deprecation there? I bet it was north of $2k per month.
Someone alluded to it above - a car doesn't cost you the purchase price. What it costs you is the purchase price minus what you are able to sell it for, amortized over the amount of time you own it (plus maintenance, repairs, insurance, etc). If you buy a car for $20k, drive it for two years and then sell it for $17.6k, it cost you $100 a month to drive.
That's why I recommended some sort of LSx swapped car - most of them are based on fully depreciated 10-20 year old platforms and you can buy one already built for less than the cost to build one. That way you can drive it for a few years, enjoy it, then sell it for what you paid for it.
I fully expect to make a little bit of cash when I go to sell the Lexus.

Cars on the other hand, I get raped on. I have an XJ right now I'm thinking about parting out because it has little issues that bug me and I'd feel bad selling the whole truck to someone, even at the 3500 asking price.... even with new 1k tires, 600 in lockers, 1k in armor, and 2K+ of preventative maintenance work done just to keep the truck off the side of the road.

I'm certain I could flip it for $26k but I don't think I could ever replace it -- it's seriously cherry. I put a lot of thought into selling it for a C6 Z06 but there's something about the C5 FRC body that rubs me right where my **** should be.

Have someone do the bypass mod on the Ti's. With spray, you'll have enough sound. That's the one thing I loved/hated about spray. You can tell when it hits just from the sound.
To do spray right, your not far from a blower setup. I think I had 3000 or so into the WS6 DP setup after the controller, bottles, and filling station. It adds up quick.
You don't have Kook LT's and a test X-pipe? for shame. No 2 step for you.

I bought my C5 in November of 2009 for $24k, it had 29k miles on it and bald tires. I got a really great deal considering my car's mods, mileage and condition.
