Yup, staying in a little house down in the south, trying to forget all the 50yr old Australian ******* I saw today. Can't complain really as any titty is better than no titty after 7 months. Be here a few days for a portcall, then back to business. Phuket is an ex-pat paradise... everything is cheap and if you know the "lay-of-the-land", can be an awesome retirement or even permanent-vacation type of place.
It's unbelievable how much you can buy for so little... especially when it comes to "labor"... and I'm not talking about women who are experts with ping-pong *****, but just simple taxi's and the usual service industries associated with a tourist town. ****, a 1/5th of anything if $4 if you go to the right 7-11.
Anyways, I was wearing my Grassroots Motorsports t-shirt walking to the beach and a Canadian ex-pat stopped me with a bewildered look in his eye and said "Tell me where you got that shirt!" He was a small-time former Can-Am driver and we had a few beers. He drives a Toyota Hilux "Tacoma" now, but dropped about 10 names that I'd heard of... we talked and had beers... it was just like a damned country song. I cannot remember his name... might have been Jim or Jack or something, Daniels rings a bell... but the story wouldn't be as good if I could remember it.
Anyways, I'm here... living the dream!

you had drinks with jack daniels? why is this not surprising. 
my sister spent a few weeks in thailand. said everything was pocket change cheap there. need a ride somewhere? couple quarters and a scary scooter later...
need a big meal for lunch? under a buck. and this was no dollar menu BS. this was authentic thai tasty.
I hear they pave the roads by digging holes in the dirt though.

man i love phuket, if you want good local food go to a place called "you & me restaurant" the place is run by rose & rocky & they make some crazy local food, from memory its on bangala rd along with a whole heap of open type places (just before the market) right on the corner, if you go there tell them zoran & steph sent you from australia & they will feed you like a king for very little money, when ever we go to thailand we eat there at least once a day coz its just so good......
