I was pretty depressed today when it took 68.00 to fill up my 4cylinder saab.

Still only 38-40ish to fill up my wifes 09 corolla. We only fill up once a month though since she lost her job, due to the **** housing market. The corolla gets over 40MPG on the HWY though, if I drive it decently. So at 10 a gallon, I guess it would suck, but I can afford it as long as I don't plan on taking any trips anywhere.

Read "The Post-American World" for a thoughtful warning of these types of possibilities.

China sucks, they decide to join the rest of the world after oil has peaked.
Christ if I spent 1300 a month on food, I would have to smother a few people in their sleep.

If it gets that high, This whole world economy **** will evaporate, and we can go back to relying on ourselves.
Will be entertaining when truckers stop hauling because they can't afford fuel and nobody can go to big box stores and buy whatever they want.

We are at approx 9 USD / us gallon in suécia right now. We're still driving, and amazed that you whine over your cheap gas.

On the other hand, escalades and hummers are not really as common over here.

OPEC doesn't want to produce more oil, keeping their profits skyrocketing. We'll keep on paying, and then getting tesla roadsters when we're fed up. I dont worry to much, as technology gets common, it gets cheap, sportscars will still be around.

Where are you getting your data? In 2000 gas prices were between 0.64 and 0.75 /l in Canada (avg).

I just hope that using a food crop to fuel automobiles doesn't kill too many people.

We whine because we obviously have a different standard of living than the rest of the world. Which technology is it you are referring to thats going to be so cheap as to replace everything that runs on gas?

When gas hits $10.00 a gallon I'll be doing my day to day shopping with a Ski-Mask and Full auto AR-15.

I have been entertaining the idea of constructing my own diesel electric hybrid.
$10.00 a gallon fuel would push these ides to fruition.

diesel electric hybrids are so overdue. they're the most efficient current technology choice we have. and nobody in the US makes one. they've got the highest "well to wheels" efficiency of any hybrid, gas, electric, diesel, whatever combination.

Gas here is like 4.80 (91 octane). They say its going to get over five by the end of the summer. Of course its gonna suck, but there nothing i can do about it besides working harder for more money and paying for it.

I once played out a scenario with someone over the idea that there would be teleporters and all public roads and free-ways would be opened up as "recreational" I would go nuts. More recently I began thinking about the idea again and decided deserted us highways might end up looking like Mad Max, with junked cars and people ramming you on the road for their idea of "fun".

Diesel Electric hybrids obviously just make too much sense guys. A engine that has high torque and out put at low rpms, that gets 50 mpg highway easy coupled with something that takes care of all the stop and go traffic needs.

What I want to know is, if say 25 million people in the US switch to owning a hybrid. What's the battery disposal plan in 15 years gonna be? What we should be doing is Electric cars with Nuclear power to provide the country.

I hope Mccain wins for that alone. He plans to start a very ambitious nuclear plan for the whole country.

voting is great and all, but its not like anything is clear in politics. Everyone is in bed with everyone, and not one figure knows anything more than what the teleprompter tells them...which begs the question, who is typing in the teleprompter, because that's who you're voting for.

probably the same thing we're doing with the mercury in compact flourescent bulbs.

Nuclear is the way to go, and soon reality will reveal itself...and hopefully we'll have a president who can pronounce it because I can't take another decade of "its cool to be an uneducated redneck".
