who can get me a deal on a flat screen?

I didn't know that the 360 was going to have 1080p games. I remember microsoft specifically saying that the hd dvd drive was going to be for movies only.

The HD-DVD drive is for movies only. That doesn't stop them from writing the game to run at 1080P, though. I believe the first 360 game at 1080P is some EA basketball game, and the next one will be Virtua Tennis 3; both are coming out in a few weeks. Up until now, all 360 games ran at 720P native.
while on the 360 topic, get the rechargable battery packs. the controllers will destroy a pack of AAs with a quickness.

I rented MI:III on blu ray and watched it at 1080i and i can't say I saw an appreciable difference on MY setup. That is if the PS3 will output 1080i DVD video over the component video. It may default to 480p unless you use HDMI/HDCP. I'm curious to see it on a real 1080p tv.
as for remotes, I keep them all hidden away and use my harmony 659 which, as of today, is getting replaced by a super deal on a Harmony 880 from amazon ($150!).

Edit: Here's the link about VT3 being the first 1080P game (rendered in frame buffer, not upscaled): http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/761/761735p1.html
Here's a link saying that NBA Street Homecourt is actually the first to support 1080P, beating VT3 by a couple weeks: http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/new...hp?story=12680
And here's the blurb that talks about the 360 update that happened late last year/early this year to allow it to render 1080P frame buffer, does not require the HD-DVD player to do so (although the software update is included on a disc with said player, or d/l'ed via Live!) and that they'll leave it up to the discretion of the developer which games render in 1080P: http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/733/733658p1.html

Right, they were pretty nasty, even on a 720P LCD t.v.
Yes, but you don't have any native 1080P games yet
Don't see much/any difference between (1)having the xbox accomplish the 1080p conversion, sending the native signal to the projector and (2) output 720p from the xbox and having the video display convert it to the 1080p display's native resolution.

Because it's what his employer led him to believe. Not an attack against you Neo, I understand where you're coming from. There are a few "Magnolia" stores near me that do a damn good job of confusing the crap out people.
You'd be surprised (or not) at how many times the big BB/Magnolia vans have stopped by, and the installers have walked in to say hi, and/or ask for jobs :gay:

It might be able to "render" a game in 1080P but it does not have the hardware to output a 1080P signal. The vga cable can output the highest resolution of any of the currently available accessories. VGA however simple cannot support enough bandwidth to output a 1080P signal.

So, if it's truly the case component and VGA cables aren't enough to carry the bandwidth necessary for 1080P, what's the upshot in practice?
Say the 360 is rendering 1080P in frame buffer, attempting to output the signal in 1080P across, say, the VGA cable, what does the T.V. see? Does it see a 1080P signal and render accordingly or does it see something in between 720P and 1080P, say, 1080i, and upscale if possible?
Got any links to tech. docs explaining the bandwidth necessary for 1080i/P and what different cables will do? I'll start looking at Wikipedia

You need a digital signal in order to properly reproduce signals with that much information. "Technically" a VGA cable can handle a 1900x1200 signal but at 1080P you will be reaching that maximum and the signal quality will be greatly degraded. So I guess you CAN put that signal through a vga cable but it will not be very pleasing compared to a digital signal at that same resolution. It is just too hard to keep the signal clean at that frequency.
A software update doesn't unlock "hidden features". There is a reason that the x360 doesnt have any digital video output options. It was never designed to have them. Anything else is just a bandaid.

So, there's no DVI-D output cables for the 360? I saw "spy pics" of a 360 with an HDMI output on it not too long ago, also.
Perhaps SEGA and EA have their respective games locked at 30 fps or something, to lower the bandwidth requirement at 1080P rez, successfully "fitting" it on an analog cable? Who knows.

There are inherent problems. First, there are few displays on the market which can support a 1080p input, let alone over component or vga. That's right, many of the supposed 1080p displays can't accept any input over 1080i:gay:. Those that can accept the signal, not all accept it over component. Secondly, it's not a technical capability thing, it's a Hollywood thing. Look into the various encryption protocols that the film studios are calling for.
neo, I'm glad that you are educating yourself. Bear in mind what you're reading about, I've been doing for the past 10 years
The digital inputs/outputs were not developed to be better at transmitting video than their analog counterparts. They were designed to make it more difficult to copy media.

Yes, I've recently been thinking about this 37" Westinghouse LCD that is supposed to have true 1080P over all of it's connections: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16889234001
$1100 shipped for a true 1080P LCD seems pretty good to me. No built-in tuner, but I'd be using a digital tuner from the cable company anyway. Yes, I know 37" is relatively small, but I've got a relatively small living room and am coming from a 27" 4:3 t.v., so standard def. content won't look any smaller, at least.
I have read about t.v.s with that precise problem: purported 1080P resolution, but maybe only one of it's inputs truly supports the resolution while all the others upconvert or whatever.
