i saw kimber come up a couple times and reminded me of a saying i have heard before

"a kimber is whats you show your friends, but a glock is what you show your enemies."

that being said, my next gun WILL be a glock 30. i rented one at the range and it was so dirty that the entire front of the gun was brown, and it still shot PERFECT, you hear so many good things about glocks, and when you shoot one you know why.

I'm not too familar with pistols, but he only thing I don't like about my friends glock is the lack of a safety. I don't know if they all are that way, or if it was just his. But I guess in self defence you wouldn't wanna say "hold on let me find the safety so I can shoot you".

I was using it in the woods for a snake gun. It stays warm here into deer season.

Many polymer pistols either use a trigger with an integrated safety or a long-pull trigger without additional safety.

I've fired but not owned a Glock, however my Smith Sigma is one of the many Glock knock-offs on the market. After replacing the spring, the trigger remains firm but not excessively heavy.

The only reason I would consider a Glock (or Glock clone) for carry is capacity. However, the accuracy I get out of the Kimber is worth finding a place for a spare mag or two...

I have to say thanks for all the info you guys have given in this thread. I will be looking for a handgun to conceal carry in the next couple of monthes and you guys have taught me alot that I didnt know. I will personally be checking out alot of the guns you have suggested in the near future to hopefully find soemthing I like.

I love my 23, but think I will eventually buy a 26 for reduced practicing costs (9mm vs .40) and reduced size for carrying in the summer.

Remember... if someone ever makes fun of you glock for being "plastic" just respond that it's "dishwasher safe".

Standard issue for grunts. Special Forces still use high end custom versions of "old reliable", John Browning's timeless .45ACP semi-auto pistol. It's still in production by Colt and still the most copied handgun in the world (over 20 firms currently produce Colt 1911 .45 ACP copies/clones)

A G30 is my normal carry piece and it is a great pistol. Very good accuracy and 10 rounds of .45. Kinda tough to conceal in the summer though (double stack).

Saw some chat earlier in this thread about full auto parts. Please don't do it. Only FA firearms registered before 1986 can be legally transferred to civilians and that includes trigger packs/sears etc. Now if you can afford it I highly reccomend suppressed sub-machineguns! I am a FFL so if you have any questions let me know.

What's ironic is that there's talk coming out of Iraq that the high velocity 5.56 used by the M-16/M-4 isn't cutting the mustard for urban combat. The Marines are considering a return to the M-14 for improved knock-down and reduced "backstop" issues.

A little over a year ago I was having problems getting my hands on metal magazine (vice the plastic crap) for my AR-10 because the Army was snatching them up as fast as they could.

Another problem with the M16/M4 is that they like to jam.. a LOT. You really have to stay on top of your cleaning and maintenance and even then you'll get jams and double-feeds pretty regularly. My last range (with an A2) my rifle double-fed so often that I ended up trading it out, re-zeroing, and firing all over again with my buddy's weapon. The best part was that it was drizzling all day and it was 40* out, so by the time I got around to doing my final firing with my frozen fingers I only got 29/40. Yay!

Since we were on the subject, I thought I would throw up a pic of my handguns.

Fron the top:

STI Executive .40 race gun - used for USPSA action shooting. Has 21 rd cap mags.

Ruger P89 9mm. One of the first semiautos I ever bought. Very reliable but accuracy is OK

CZ-52. This a a Czech piece that shoots 7.62x25. Shoots decent. A bunch of us bought them years ago when you could get a 600 round tin of ammo and the pistol for $60.

Ruger Super Blackhawk in .454 Casull. This is a hog leg. I have killed a number of deer with this thing. .454 is quite a bit more powefull than a .44 magnum. Pushes a 300 grain bullet at 1,350 fps. I have several friends that won't shoot it or have shot it once and they said "that's enough". Pussies.

Springfield Armory U.S. Spec .45. It's still NIB - never shot. I won it at our end of year USPSA banquet.

1942 Browning .32. Fun little WWII gun. Accurate, but not much oomph.

Ruger Single Six. .22LR and .22Mag. The first pistol that I ever bought. Used it for coon hunting back in high school. Sold it to my buddy. I was after him for over 10 years to sell it back to me, as it was the only gun that I had ever sold. Got it back a few years ago.

Got a bunch of rifles, shotguns and black powder rifles as well. They don't see much action anymore, as I spend most of my time archery deer hunting.

I've always loved those single six's. They are a lot of fun and darn accurate for a 22. They feel good in your hand.

I'm sure the Super Blackhawk is a good time too. I've never shot one, but let a few off with a Taurus Raging Bull. Lots of fun. Keep it away from the limp wristed wusses though.

As a wheel gun fan, that Casull is a monster. Dirty Harry on steroids. Popular with the Alaskan fishing guides as bear protection.

Again, not a cool gun but a hammerless light frame 38 makes a pretty good pocket gun. No goofy safety and goes bang bang bang reliably forever.

I agree completely with Hustler. If you ever have to use it, you want it to do the job.

Picked up the Keltec today.
PF9 + belt clip + 2 boxes FMJ + 1 box Federal HP = $300

My CCW permit is still a couple months out so I'm not carrying it anywhere except in my home.

So far, it seems exactly what I was looking for. It's small, light, and unobtrusive. Others can't tell it's there. It's no more annoying to carry than a wallet or keys in my pocket. This weekend is already filled up with mostly BS, so next weeked I'll take it to the range and fire the 2 boxes of FMJ. 100 round break in period, right?

I won't carry a gun that's had less than 1000 rnds through it without malfunction. minimum 200 rounds of that is always the HP ammo I intend to carry with. I prefer Ranger XP for carry, standard issue law enforcement around here.
