Default WHy is my Xbox making a horrible noise?

Just started doing this sound like it's grinding away the discs but they look fine and the games play normally. WTF is going on? The fan maybe? Sounds like it's going to blow up!?

Ever put weight on it? If you had something heavy on it it could have damaged the dvd drive.

That is probably not the problem. I would be willing to bet that you could stand on an XBox (I'm assuming we are talking XBox1 and not an XBox 360) and not damage anything. There was a magnet in the 360's that gave everyone a lot of problems. I don't remember ever hearing anyone with an XBox1 with a magnet problem.

My bet is the fan. I would take a skinny screwdriver or something and jam it in the fan (to make it stop) from the outside of the case. If the noise stops then it is your fan. It is a relatively easy fix but you need a set of security star bits to open the box.

For what it is worth, I would be in the market for a cheap XBox1 with a broken DVD if anyone had one. Send me your manufacture date if you are interested in selling it.

I just had this happen to me about 1 month ago, and my xbox already went to be fixed by Microsoft once.....**** that.

You have to take the actual disc drive apart and **** with the magnet that holds the disc while its spinning.

I followed the directions on youtube and my xbox has been fine ever since. I've been playing with the xbox apart and just manually put the magnet on top of my games. I really only play halo3, so for me this was the fastest, cheapest, and easiest fix.

The picture is how my xbox sits this very moment. That little white circle on top of the disc, that's the magnet that drops down and holds the disc while its moving.

Also, here's the youtube video I used.

P.S. The video is long, but it is a good tutorial.

owning an xbox is like owning a vw, its constantly fucked and the manufacturer seems to think its your fault.

THanks guys I will try the fan, if that's not it I will take it apart. It's a 360 btw. This curiously happened after my younger brother had it at college for a couple months....

If its giving you a UNPLAYABLE/UNREADABLE disc error, then it has nothing to do with the fan.....lol. Your brother having it also has nothing to do with it. It's the shitty Toshiba drives that are the cause.

Try my link I posted and I'd be willing to bet that's it.

I borrowed a 360 for ONE week and it broke. These things are ******* great, like little time bombs. It didn't have the same problem though, some processor thing where first it just froze every couple of hours, and by the time I brought it back to my friend's house to show him it had the red rings going on.

Hustler, you make me laugh/not want an R32 anymore.

I look at it like this, if you buy a DVD player, do you expect it to be like it was new, years later? Or a TV, cell phone, etc. I just figure **** it, I'll rock this one out of the case till its toast. Then sell it on ebay for like $150, and put that toward a ******* newer one with better hardware and better performance. Sending them into Microsoft is a ******* joke, they probably take each one and jerk off on it after they replace the broken whatever, then send it back to you fresh with jiz.

Believe it or not, sometimes the red light error, is as easy as wrapping the 360 with a towel and letting it overheat like a ****. It somehow re-solders the connections and 99% of the time, fixes the 3 red rings of death.

I don't have alot of time for videogames, but god dammit when I wanna play...the ****** better work!

I actually still have mine if you're interested. Date is 11-09-2002. It's got the circle of doom which I assume is because of the drive.
