Exclamation Wrecked my Miata... Miata + trees = crushed tin can

I drifted this thing before, so I was "OK". I came around a turn... no one in sight... Got up to about 40mph, left off the throttle turned, put a little gas, got about 170 degrees, then I noticed a car coming towards me a little too fast, I over corrected the steering wheel, car oversteers, then the rear end snapped, I push in the clutch and begin braking slowly, then it began understeering bad... I hit a concrete barrier, my Miata jumped about 2 feet into the air... and then I saw trees... so many TREES!!! I clenched my teeth, and my buttocks for impact, my buddy close to shitting himself. We hit this giant oak tree, my front bumper wraps around the tree, and as we learn in Physics, there plenty of momentum so my car is deflected off the tree and we hit another tree... this time shattering my driver door glass and crushing my door in...

I take a moment to take everything in. There's God-knows-what spewing out of my hood, broken glass, debris, a little bit of blood, I'm in cold-sweat, adrenaline pumping, ears ringing and going blind in left my eye. My buddy said, in the most non-nonchalant tone, anti-climatically stating the obvious, "This is what it feels like to be in car-crash."

My friend opens his door, and we both exit through the only working door at this point. We survey the horrific damage...
1.) My Miata's front end is caved in, hood is permanently latched on, cracked windshield.
2.) My A/C is gone for good, Koyo radiator bent in and leaking copious amount of coolant.
3.) My door looked like it was rammed in my a charging Rhino...
4.) And over all, my Miata looked like a crushed tin can.

Then a cop rolls by, I explained to him that I lost control of my vehicle, receive a Wreckless Driving Ticket, and I call a Tow Truck to drag my Miata back to my house. I then told my mom that I had killed my car and she's sighs, telling me that I had wasted all my money on the car...

So instead of wallowing in Despair, I take apart my car the next morning, cut off the bumper with garden shears, pry apart the hood latch, remove the radiator, a/c radiator, lines, heater core, turbo, piping and all the knick-knacks. Fashion a new driver window from plastic lying around my house which I screw onto the door. I get the car running long enough to drive to the court house, pay my fines, and beg for forgiveness.
I go to a body shop who estimated about $2500. I said "**** it".
And then I join Turbomiata.net. I buy a new hood(old one flew off in highway), bumper, door, intercooler(which I was going to buy anyway), piping, ssq bov, emanage blue and repair my radiator, waterpump and remove the a/c compressor/housing. I'm still installing everything, but the car runs fine... it's even a little lighter without A/C.(That's a optimistic way of looking at it)

After about $400... here's my Miata now.

92' Miata, Greddy 15g-TD40-h compressor, Vortech 12:1 FMU, 305 injecotors, Jackson Racing plug wires, Bosch one step cooler plugs, 5 degrees from base timing 10psi(ic not installed yet),no brain(emanage not installed yet), leaky bov(hks ssq not installed), manual boost controller, no A/C, Spec Stage 3 carbon/metallic clutch, 8lb. Fidanza, tranny brace, comp. engine mounts, Koyo Aluminum Radiator, Koni yellows, racing beat springs, all aluminum 15" rims wrapped in Azenis rt-615's(30% tread left)

The nice thing about race tracks is it's nearly impossible to hit a tree after you **** up. I agree- good job with $400. I think you need to 1) buy a real roll bar 2) start a DD fund and 3) start doing sanctioned events when you've got a DD in your driveway.

Glad your passenger was ok and you didn't kill anybody else. Hope you learned your lesson.

If there's anything that I can do to make your car faster, just let me know. The next time you hit a damn tree I want to make sure you're going fast enough to kill yourself.

Lesson learned, good repair for $400. Keep that **** off the streets, one day you might be the guy in the sedan with his baby in the backseat coming the other way, and you'll have a different outlook on acceptable risk.

Well we all make mistakes I suppose. Luckily yours didn't ruin anyone else's day but your own. Good repair work, shitty driving. It sounds like you did learn your lesson though...

Edit: Frame must me more crooked than my *****...

You guys are so judgmental. I'm sure none of the people bashing the guy have ever made a poor decision before. I know I've had a few "woah" moments while driving that could have just as easily gone the other way. He admitted his error and took it upon himself to fix the damages. What more could we possibly ask?

Agreed. That's why I only commented on the good fix for $400, as it was the only positive of the whole post.

Guess you've never had a friend killed by a careless or reckless driver.

He could have killed his passenger. Or a pedestrian. Or anyone else on the road. There's too many morons on the road that don't have respect for others. The OP is LUCKY he's still alive and not in jail for killing his passenger or someone else. I can only hope this has been a huge slap in the face. In the real world you don't play again when you **** up.

Did we hurt his feelings? What about his self esteem?

I know I wouldn't care about either if he had hit my car, especially if my daughter was with me. God help the person who is ******* around and crashes into my car because he thought he'd have some "innocent" fun. Driving fast in a straight line on a highway is one thing, buttsexing around an (apparently) blind corner with (apparently) oncoming traffic is another.

Until someone changes lanes in front of you, or you have a blow out. Both are equally stupid. I'm not defending the OP, just sayin what he did is no less dumb than what I'm betting most of us have done, me included.

I was waiting for someone to post that. Sure that was dumb too, but I was in control and not putting others at risk. I had no passenger for starters. I was driving in a straight line divided highway, not ******** around a blind corner with a passenger on a 2 lane road.

Good point. I'd like to point out though, that cars were designed to drive straight, and not designed to be buttsexed around corners by teenagers..
