my brother is a huge tv/video nerd and says sony and samsung are some of the best. The one you posted is definitely nice, though I've seen comparable ones for a bit cheaper during christmas sales....

id be 50/50 about this

I bought an LG 24" flat panel. Had it three weeks and it's already developed an issue where the saturation changes from top to bottom. So the same color on a vertical bar looks different at the top vs. the bottom. YMMV

Seems like a decent price. I'm personally waiting for the price of these to come down a bit more before I get a nice one. It'll be a 52" when I do though.

You can do way better:
LG 47LB5D Flat-panel TV reviews - CNET Reviews
They didn't exactly slam the thing, but the list of goods is short.
BTW, your tax+shipping price is $1482... you can do better. Do not buy that LG.

Coincidentally, my 43" Toshiba CRT **** the bed 2 days ago. I've been getting ready to replace it for weeks and have been doing a crap-load of homework. I settled on a 52" LCD and have been debating a few models... but it's come down to the Samsung LN52A650.

You absolutely do not want that LG when a Samsung 550 is $1549 w/free shipping and no tax.Samsung | LN-52A550 52" 1080p LCD TV | LN52A550P3FXZA | B&H The 550 is the previous model to the 650, but in the current market, new models come out every 6 months. Right now, you can buy 7 different 52" Samsung 1080p LCD's of various models simply because they're redesigning and marketing new ones faster than they can sell the stock. I actually thought about the 750 because it comes with onboard ethernet and then I figured the extra $150 could be spent on fuel injectors for a car I don't own yet.

Again, I've been doing the homework like a champ for weeks and Samsung/Sony are basically tied for second in the LCD wars behind Pioneer... with Toshiba close in there. People will tell you that Pioneer isn't worth the money and Sony can eat-a-dick no matter how good a product they come up with... but in the end, nobody talks **** about Samsung. I've read a couple hundred threads at various tech forums, dozens of online reviews, and done the online shopping. My current Toshiba lasted 9years and 4 Navy X-country moves... and never skipped a beat, so I was thinking I'd be partial to their latest... but even in direct comparisons the Toshi 52XV54u isn't liked as much as the Sammy, and the Toshi is $200 more. The Sony KDL-W4100 competes evenly with the Sammy on almost every review/comparison I read but I like the looks of the Sammy better and I've had several Samsung product in the past and their remotes are some of my favorites whereas I've hated every Sony remote I ever owned. I'm in the market about $500 over your pricerange if you're in the $1500 category... but the Samsung 550 is a no-brainer over that LG.

I'm sure you'll need some cables. MonsterCable can eat a big fat walrus dick. Don't buy into that hype. Buy your cables at Monoprice: www.monoprice.com/home/index.asp6ft HDMI 1.3a CL2 rated cables under $10... or $100 for the exact same **** from Monster in a nice pretty box.

Wow Sam great info you always come thru. Looks like I'll pass on the LG. Upon your research did you happen to look at the Toshiba 52R530U Regza? Toshiba 52RV530U Regza LCD TV - 52", 1080p, 4 HDMI, 8 ms, ATSC, NTSC, HDMI In at TigerDirect.com

I did, and the RV is a competitor for the Sammy 530... just a model or two below the 550... but again, there are so many different models from the various companies that we're talking about miniscule upgrades each time they change the nomenclature.

Then that makes the Toshiba a bad deal. After tax and shipping it would be more than the Sam 550 you linked me.

Get Samsung, get the 0% (most stores offer it), and pay like 100 a month or whatever you want.
