Default Y U NO turbo'd?

After noticing a few sigs and random posts, it got me wondering. How many of the members here ACTUALLY drive a turbo miata?

Some of the members in question I can remember being around for YEARS and it still appears they have no true miataturbo experience.

If not, why? Lack of funding? Lost interest? Women issues? Scared?

Vote and post!

Buying a house, trying to get a daily, and I am trying to be a fast driver before upping the car.

I figured getting with-in a second or two of spec miata times would be sufficient for me to start the turbo build.

Fixing up an old (used and abused) 1994, and limited funds. Suspension was done, but needs to be redone due to using old, saggy FM springs. New seats go in next, then MSPnP. After that, fuel system (injectors, rail, pump). Then we get to the actual boost. MS had to be pulled because it needed inspected, and I didn't know about fixing the CEL which they check here in NY.

Plan is to SC, because I bought a package deal on M.net several years ago. MP62, gauges, water injection and more. Obviously (at least to me), if I had to do it over, I'd be using a turbo. But growing up in the '70s made me want a supercharger.

Also, I'm married and have a kid. That and weather (unheated garage) means limited time to work on things, and I'd mostly rather drive it than tear it apart to work on it.

Having bad experiences in the past with IB and relating them is "whining" now, eh? Especially considering a vendor had the same experiences?

(Edit) Lolol, Y U CALL EMILIO A WHINER TRACK?!?

Funds and I want to track the car in NA form for at least a year first. If it was a street car it would be turbo already.

Just bought a house, so funds are keeping me from bolting on a 2871/3071. I'm still stuck on the lowly 2560 for now :(

I bought a Miata with the intention of having a relatively inexpensive track-oriented car that would still see fair-weather street duty. I had a lot of romantic ideas that now strike me as being better in theory than in application (e.g. a 250 whp car that drove to and from tracks a few hundred miles away).

I got somewhat scared off by this thread and went for a while deciding whether to just scrap the whole Miata idea and buy a C5 Z06 and keep it close to stock. Ran lots of spreadsheets and decided to keep the Miata forever (or until it's completely wadded up) and tone down the goals.

Then I had some work-oriented projects that took up most of my spare time. I work on my cars because I am too cheap to pay someone else to do it right, not because I enjoy it. So, when I ended up with minimal spare time, I was not spending it in the garage.

Now, I should have more spare time and more motivation but have fallen in to the "while I am in there" vortex. "Oh, I have to take this fender off? Might as well finally get rid of the airbag sensors and wiring... which means I should get the box under the dash... which means I should swap the dash to the NA6 style which I prefer..."

Then I need some more seat time with the car with no power because I lack natural talent or skill. That also gives Trackspeed the ability to finish up their track-oriented turbo kit.

I had a turbo Miata but then I parted it out to eliminate student debt and buy a house, which was a good choice IMO. Now I have a turboless Miata and 95% of the parts to turbo it, but between larger house projects (like finishing the basement) and everyone else's Miata projects, my car gets slightly neglected. So call it a current lack of time.

For those that went turbo and then went V8 - what do you miss most about the turbo?

Crappy cold starts, wondering why the ECU was flaking out, tuning, playing with the map, crying, telling others and getting told that my/their map is too conservative and they needed to be baller and run another 10* advance, always having something to tweak.

A turbo spooling up makes up for all of the above crap.

That's about it.

Work in progress, previously turbo.

Was turbo via greddy kit. Removed and sold the kit when I bought an STi, with the intention of selling the Miata. Ended up buying a house, selling the STi and keeping the Miata instead.

While it sucks driving a non turbo'd miata, it has given me the chance to do it right this time, starting with MS over band-aids, and going ARTech over greddy.
