I'm pretty sure you're remembering that article wrong... Houston, TX most certainly has never had a ban on anything related to guns.

Washington D.C. however had a complete ban on possession of handguns until the now-famous SCOTUS case Heller vs. DC that declared the ban unconstitutional.
District of Columbia v. Heller - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A very good read for those interested is a series of articles in the Washington Post by Emily Miller "Emily gets her gun". It's a series of articles, so click through and read them all.
MILLER: Emily gets her gun - Washington Times

Earlier this year, a district court rules that Chicago's ban on the SALE of handguns was unconstitutional.

HOE, don't make the mistake of believing that the major anti-gun players in the country are stupid. There are a few key democrats who've opened their mouths and shown their asses when it comes to firearms knowledge, but they all know the statistics are nowhere close to their side... so they rely on misdirection and outright lying to convince you that the coutryside is a bloody warzone and we just "have to do something for the children". To classify them as "crazy" is to underestimate the very precise and calculated methods they use to further their goals. You can't write these people off as being out of touch with reality because then you then minimize what they're capable of. They know exactly what they're doing, and they must be taken seriously because their weapon of choice is fear, and the demographic they pander to believes every word of it.

It shouldn't be a surprise anymore to anybody that the goal of Obama/BradyCampaign/Bloomberg/MAIG/etc... is outright elimination of all types of firearms in the hands of civilians. It's just another means-to-an-end in the march towards socialism.

I read above and yes; the honest and truthful weird ballistics phenomena is that .223 will go through fewer walls than conventional handgun rounds (9mm, .40, revolver calibers)

Has something to do with how small the actual round is, and its speed. Yes, its known for accuracy, velocity and distance but the sacrifice is penetration and overall pounds of force it can displace... but it does make a good home defense round because of these traits; you can lead a moving, dodgy target in closer quarters with the round than a slower handgun round.

That 7.62x39 is a tank of a round though, like most russian calibers, goes through **** like butter. I knew a guy when on tour who got injured by one that went through the sandbag he was behind at the gate.

However, I do not have an AR anymore, but I should get one again now. I keep my 327 federal magnum with low recoil, self defense rounds, and my .40 with normal self defense rounds in my night stand, but I will conceal carry my .40 in looser clothing, while I will carry either my .327 or .380 in slimmer clothing. Wife will carry her beretta 9mm nano in almost everything, its a pretty good gun, wish it wasnt pink however... she did that on purpose.

My Garand under the bed is a little clumsy as a home defense weapon.

^I'll have to wait until I get home to see what that is.

I've managed to load and stock about 1000rds of 9mm 115gr FMJ's in the last few weeks... just doing it as I have time. I've got another 1000ct of 115's, and about 2000 124gr's which I've loaded up about 100rds to test, but can't load in bulk until I get to the range and try them.

Last week, PalmettoStateArmory was offering free shipping... this week they are having an unadvertised 20% off sale on almost thier whole website (minus ammo/guns), which is a way better deal because their shipping is usually really cheap.

I bought 300ct Hornady 115gr XTP HP's to start my zombie-apocalypse stockpile. The XTP's get great reviews as long as you keep the speed up. They're not a cutting edge HP design, but are very tried-and-true. 6.5gr of Power Pistol with WinSPP should get me 1200fps... that's 370ftlbs... and zombies hate the ftlbs.

One of these days I really need to drive out and visit Palmetto State Armory. I just have had no money to put into firearms these last few years, so I have completely avoided everything firearm related.

It would be cool if somebody came up with a list of "cool gun stuff to do state-by-state". Whever I travel, I always check ahead to see if there's something I want to see... my last drive through Texas, I almost took a whole day detour to go down to BEGi.

I was on my way to Midland from New Orleans and kinda'ish in a hurry since deer season opened the next day and I had 2 rifles to sight in. In hindsight, I should have done it. Even though I haven't owned a Miata in 5 years, passing up a chance to meet the man is something I regret.

Hopefully headed to the range today after work to test out my 124gr loads!

I was planning a trip up there on the 5th but the rain kept me from going (was going to drop by Fudruckers and gain 10 pounds on the way back). If you want to take a trip, look me up.

I looked at their range prices on the website when planning the trip. Nope, I'll stick with what we have in the Charleston area. Even though we have absolute crap for good sporting good stores in the area (BassPro Shops is coming next year) we do have some fairly cheap/nice ranges for such a backwards place.

Speaking of good gun stuff by state...

Any of you who are within a couple hours from Waterman IL should really look into the Aurora Sportsmens Club "Practical Rifle" program.
Practical Rifle

Practical Rifle: think IDPA but more collegial and instructional and with sporting rifles. Any magazine fed semi-auto of major caliber (though .22lr is allowed, it may not work well at longer ranges). They do multiple stages from contact distance to 150 yards or so.

Practical Precision Rifle: Similar to the above but with ranges out to 600 yards.

Tactical two-gun: Mainly a skills day where you work on scenarios with either rifle/pistol or rifle/shotgun.

Gear clinics: A class where they help you select gear.

I am a member of this club and this program is really something special. The focus on the above events are on skills development and safety with competition being a close third. I believe the cost for the event is only $20 for non-members. If you want to spend a day getting your rifle off the bench these events are very attractive and they do at least one practical rifle event a month YEAR ROUND. I am not sure if the precision rifle events are monthly as well but there are plenty of them...

Any questions let me know. I'd be happy to meet any of you out there for a tour (and shoot possibly) if you are interested in joining. It is one of the few clubs and the only in Illinois that I know of that allows members to draw from holsters as well as move and shoot outside of events.

Go to the 5:00:00 mark to see our newest toy.

Year round:

By the way - the "Steve" in the second video is not me. I would be much slower...

Finally got a kydex iwb holster today! Yay! Went to a local called on your 6 designs. They were out of stock for a full size M&P...So they made one for me right there by hand. No press. Outstanding. This thing is comfy as hell too.

Hooray, I know one more ASC member . Now I really just need to get out there. With the little one I just don't have the dedication/time to join, but really would love to get out on the range there.

May issue ruled (essentially) unconstitutional in Hawaii:

That is the headline, not my statement.

Hawaii restrictions on gun carrying (essentially) held unconstitutional — for now

I have a Crimson Trace laser thing for Glock 29/30 (non-SF models).

It was installed for a short period of time. It comes with everything it would as new (batteries, tools, literature).

I'll let it go for a very reasonable price. PM me if interested. I will post photos when I get home.

Yes, yes, yes... I know I said I was going to stop going... but I'm headed out on a 5-6month deployment in a month and am going to miss the whole summer. Hopefully I get back in time for the opening of deer season (yeah, like the wife is going to allow that the first week or two I'm back).

Anyways, this is my haul from this morning:
CCI 9mm Shotshell: $10
Coexist sticker: $3
"Used about 100rds", he said Dillon .40cal dies: $50

I almost bought a 1000 bag of o.f. .40 brass for $35, but realized I just need to go shooting more and eventually will pick up that many for free (plus I don't have a gun in .40). Primers were all over the map... anywhere from $25 for Wolf to $40 for Winchester standard. I might have bought some except my LGS has Winchester Standard for $23 otd/1000ct... and I've got plenty.

Guys still want $75 for a 500/550 pack of whatever .22lr... I even saw a few get sold. .223 still .40cents/rd, which is amazing considering what you can get it for online and that all the Walmarts around here are stocked full.

I can't wait until it's time to buy a gun for the kids in a year or two... plenty of .22lr guns that aren't selling for crap because everybody knows you can't get ammo for them. I might buy one now for cheap. Synth stock Ruger 10/22's for $189... really unbelievable.
