Yet Another Gun Thread

put that shiz in a bench vise, torch it, and whack it down. lmao.
Just figured a bolt would be fairly cheap, and i wouldnt have to modify any of the factory parts, so i could swap it all back later if i wanted. But the gun is so cheap, i could always just buy another one. lol

Comments on the video are concerning the new sights that I put on by eyeball only. I figured that I would be 20 feet off one way or another at the 100 yard range. Not sure who the dick was that was asking about my glasses (they are safety glasses by the way - none of his damn business though).

No fireball for some reason??? Was still cool to shoot it and got a lot of nice comments on it at the range this morning.

OMG that thing is a beautiful beast.
The camera probably doesnt do justice when it comes to the ear splitting explosion that comes out of that arm cannon.

Just made a small ammo purchase. Not sure if it was smart (I don't even have a firearm that is chambered for 5.45x39) but if the ammo import ban for this stuff is true I want to have some. Not sure what the price is going to do on this stuff but I am either set for life or possibly going to make a couple of $$$ selling it.

Late Valentines day present from the wife. She got the local gun store to call me in on a "we think the gun smith found a part that might belong to a gun of your's" ploy. Got there and they showed it to me, but acted like it was already spoken for. She pops out and it's spoken for me. Yay. Funny thing is this is the second one they had to order for her cause the first one she ordered got sold out from under her because of a mis-communication at the store. Really cool people though, and very good guys/gals.

What is it about the Russian stuff that makes them so damned loud?
I have an SKS, which shoots the 7.62x39 round. It's ear splitting; downright painful. I will occasionally shoot the 9mm carbine without ear protection, and I hunt without it (12ga. shotgun or .44 Rem mag), but I'd never think to shoot the SKS without protection.
Friend's Mosin is as loud as artillery. His M1 isn't even as loud or quite as sharp a report. So, what causes that?

Bought two rifles last night.
1) Waffen Werks AK-74:
I needed something to shoot all the 5.45x39 that I just bought and I've heard good things about the WW rifle.
2) WASR-10 AK-47 with slidefire:
I had a WASR-10 before (actually three of them) and thought it was a great rifle. I'd always heard they were shitty rifles but I had no problems with the three I had. I don't have any 7.62x39 right now so I'll have to buy a case or two.
After completing the Mosin project I thought I would be good on guns for a while but I had a few drinks last night and guess I wasn't in my right mind. I'm sure I paid too much for both but I had a little cash burning a hole in my pocket (very rare for me to say that) and didn't want to wait any longer.

So... I'm outa here in 2 weeks, won't be back until mid-October at the earliest.
Gonna sell my R700 and net about $800. Also got a little "stash" the wife doesn't know about, plus gonna squirrel away a bit more while I'm out on the boat... hopefully have about $2k to spend on guns when I get back.
First order of business, finish dedicated home-defense AR15. Need an upper-minus. Prob just gonna get a plain-jane 14.7" PSA A2 unit for like $300, add a Troy flip-up rear, a light-laser foregrip, and call it a day.
But the real ticket is what to do with the other $1500... gotta replace the R700, need a deer gun, want new toy, want to shoot long-range... enter the AR10.
I've read up on Armalite vs. DPMS, PTR, SCAR-H, M1A, Remington, and a few others. Since I can load some hi quality-control ammo for whatever I buy, the accuracy will be there... what's left is just cost, and I don't need a battle rifle. I need a deer gun that doubles as a toy and long-range steel plinker.
Recently, the AR10 has been getting some love. I'm sold on the S&W AR10... $1k will get me this bad-boy:
Model M&P10 .308 WIN/ 7.62x51 at Quantico Tactical
That leaves me enough for the 12x SWFA super-sniper and mount... plus a decent trigger... free-float tube will come along down the line.

I've had a chance to mess with that M&P 10 and it will be my next purchase as well. Thinking about trading in my 700 as well, but I'm kind of attached to it...
I'd recommend the SWFA 3-9 over the 12x. So much more versatility, and on that lightweight .308 auto-loader I'd want to be able to dial down to 3x. I've been using it since its release, and I think the 3-9 SS is one of the very best values in optics. We have four of them between my group of shooting buddies and have taken them out to 800yds w/o issue. I haven't had a chance to try out the new small objectve mil/mil 2.5-10 vortex with illum and zerostops which is the only thing I'd consider switching it out for this side of a 2.5-10x32 nightforce.
Also, I really can't imagine an AR trigger better for an all-around rifle than the Geissele SSA.
Good luck and stay safe on your deployment.
