if you're just shooting paper or dirt, you really should have no qualms about purchasing some used glass.

Used? Where would I find used scopes? I don't have a problem spending for something decent, but I don't need anything fancy. Just shooting targets and cans.

BTW, I just found that Tasco scope on Walmart. They still sell the same cheap POS, and it's less than 7 bucks. I did find I pretty nice one at Gander Mtn for about 30, and Dick's has one for 20. For the .22, that should suffice. It's not that accurate a rifle.

Feedramps are an order of magnitude stronger than any casing. There is zero additional wear caused by steel over brass when talking about AR's. Some guns won't run on a particular brand of steel ammo just like some guns won't run on a particular brass brand. The main "problem" with steel-case Wolf/Tula/etc is that they're much dirtier, and require a bit more maintenance than more expensive and cleaner-burning brass stuff. If you clean your gun after every range session like most guys do, this isn't a problem. If it's a ranch gun that rides on the back of a quad, shoots 20 critters a day, and hasn't seen a swab in months/years... then you're probably better off with an AK. Bottom line is that Pusha is a conundrum... he's a Colt snob who swears by steel ammo. Normally those two beliefs don't go together, but in this case, he's right... steel hurts nothing.

You can't go wrong with a Nikon Prostaff for the money. Nikon ProStaff 2-7x32mm Riflescope, Matte w/ Nikoplex Reticle FREE S&H 6719. Nikon ProStaff Rifle Scopes, Nikon Rifle Scopes.

Screw that... for general .22lr use, this is the big-daddy of cheap scopes:
Amazon.com: Simmons Truplex Riflescope (4X32, Matte): Sports & Outdoors Amazon.com: Simmons Truplex Riflescope (4X32, Matte): Sports & Outdoors

That scope has a huge recommendation factor from Rimfirecentral. It's as good as you and your ammo are. I've shot a several thousand rounds through mine, using 30-40 different brands/types of ammo, and tested from a rest, there is nothing that gets you more for your money. There's a 3-9x32 version for like $8 more if you need the magnification... which I can almost promise you don't.

One more thing about steel-case ammo... LOTS OF LUBE!

Also, a few times a month, I can find $4.99 Monarch/Tula at the local Academy... I never leave Academy without buying a few boxes of .223. I suppose for a bit less per round I could buy online in bulk, but whatever.

Also x2, my M&P15 is at my FFL when I get back to NOLA... full review to follow.

Just found this... if you're in the market, this is the best deal I've ever seen on this gun by about $40. Academy everyday price on these is $280, but closer to $305 OTD... if you've got a $20 FFL near you, I'd recommend this gun as a first revolver. I had one, it was awesome... but after about 3 months of EDC, I realized that I'm not a revolver guy.

I love my taurus, even though its a 327 federal magnum and not ultralite, I still love it.

It used to be hard to find ammo, but it seems that its more and more available since I bought it.

FILE0115.jpg?t=1337379494

It was hard to break in, every once and a while the carbon would residue the chamber and make it very hard to remove the spent brass. But after 120 rounds going from 327 fed, to 32 short, long, magnum and auto, it is easy to eject it.

Agreed to not being a revolver guy, my wife CCs this since she likes revolvers, but I CC and open carry a cheap but effective (after trade in for the new model) smith and wesson sigma .40. The taurus is great though for hiking and back packing.

I tried carrying my new baby eagle .45, but its too heavy. Might sell it or trade it in for something else. I have a good friend at a gun shop.

Since I recently got to shoot some cool stuff at MCT, I thought maybe I should share. Got to shoot the m16A4 again, but this time it had a ACOG RCO sight on it which was cool, but very different from the iron sights. I still managed to hit 19/20 targets ranging from 50-500 yards away which I'm pretty happy with. I also got to use the PEG15, which has lasers, one of which we used with nightvision goggles to do a night qualification shoot, very fun. We also shot the M249 which was way fun since it's full auto, and the M240 which was even more fun since it shoots a larger round and makes a. redonkulious amount of noise. There was also the M203 grenade launcher, , which we shot high explosive dual purpose rounds from and last we got to throw a livefragmentation grenade which is extremely loud and not really that fun on account of the thing blowes up.

Beat that pusha.

I miss being around a half dozen M240's going off. One of the few things I miss. MK19's are still one of my favorites. Couldn't find a vid that was done well.
Few tips-use at your digression. Just suggestions.
1- When you rack a machine gun (240,249,mk19,etc) do it palms up with pinkys in.
*IF* you catch a finger in the mechanism you don't mess up your trigger, thumb, fun fingers. Pinkies are disposable. Gloves help. Plus it feels more natural to pull that way way to me and you don't widen your profile in reloads. Little things.

2-I have no idea why I can't find a decent mk19 vid. After you get comfortable with them you don't need to wait for rounds to hit down range. Few bursts and move on then re acquire if need be. It's not like the rounds will meet mid air and have a gay marriage. They don't catch each other. Burst multiple targets. Really fun with a few buddies on range days. Spread out, name targets and take turn bursting each others intermittently. Even at a range and being on the "nice" side of the gun is a little scary.

3-Don't burst in repeatable patterns. Makes you predictable if ya didn't get them all.
IE- Burst wait 2sec then burst repeat is boring. Quick, short, rapid and aggressive. If ya didn't get them, they should be to terrified to do anything productive. Spice it up a bit.

Also, when you fire M9's and someone puts their hand behind the slide. Stop them. No range official likes blood everywhere or first aid on an idiot.

MK19's for those out of the know

It is usually a felony to be in possession of a firearm on federal property. Your state CCW permit does not provide you an exception.

There are exceptions for people who live in base housing. Most base housing agreements require you to disclose all your firearms and provide ownership proof to get a lease. Almost nobody actually signs those papers... I certainly wouldn't. But in order to CCW, you need to be on your way from your house to the gate or back, not going to work or to the PX/Commissary.

OTOH... I know a lot of guys who carry through the gate every day. Your only real concern is a random search of your vehicle at the gate. In that case, simply having the firearm on your person means they probably won't find it since they don't search/frisk you. I'd leave it in my car when I went into a building. Of course I wear a flight-suit every day, so CCW is virtually impossible.

I've been out and about a few times on the weekend or doing something in civvies and needed to go on base, and did. I guess I was taking a chance.

Also, pretty much anything is waiverable by the base CO. He can draft an instruction and authorize whatever he wants. I don't think there's a base out there where CCW is completely ok, but in a place like lower Louisiana, where more than half the people I know CCW, actually prosecuting a legal CCW holder for carrying through the gate would really cause a shitstorm. The base CO might even be required to address the fact that a lot of people DO CCW through the gate on a daily basis and just let it go.

This was exactly the response I was hoping for.

I knew that having firearms on federal property was a felony and I knew when I would CC in VA that if I was going to Quantico or Belvoir I would have to make sure to leave my firearm at home. I was just curious about how it was handled with active duty guys. It is nice to know that the CO of the base can allow it and such.

Sam, thanks for the links. That's the info I was looking for.

Gonna check out Dick's tonight for the .22 scope. For something under 30 bucks, it's not that critical.

Look familiar? The Marlin's new scope (Barska 3-9x32 I think) actually came on my single shot H&R .223 rifle which I replaced with a 3-20x40mm Simmons scope sourced from Bushnell for $99.00.

3-9x32 Plinker-22 Scope W/Rngs - 859858, Scopes at Sportsman's Guide

Amazon.com: Simmons Truplex .22 Mag Riflescope (3-9X32, Matte): Sports & Outdoors Amazon.com: Simmons Truplex .22 Mag Riflescope (3-9X32, Matte): Sports & Outdoors

Look around on sportsmansguide, there's a lot of inexpensive quality (Bushnell for example) scopes on there under $200.00.

I built another AR-15 on my girlfriends kitchen counter last night.
