Yet Another Gun Thread

Or CA. I hate this thread, but I keep coming back to drool
I'm up to 3 AR15 and 1 DPMS style AR10 lowers. I'm going to sit on them until this Leyland Yee bullshit blows over. Now that you can't TOUCH a lower in CA simply due to avalibility, I've got my brother and a coworker clawing at me to sell.

That guy is a complete nutjob, and is so blatantly out-to-lunch that the rest of the hard-core Cali democrats shun him. You have to consider the Bay Area as a microcosm of the state. I'm not saying that the rest of the place isn't run by complete morons and is it's gun laws are terrible, but the majority of the asshattery that Cali is localized there.
I keep up with Calguns monthly or so and am simply amazed at the number of firearms related lawsuits that are currently in the courts in that case from people suing various cities, counties, police departments, politicians, etc... It is mind-boggling how much money the state spends keeping the crush on 2A stuff. The firearms industry in CA is immense despite the stifling laws, and Calguns/SAF are fighting the good fight daily. Keep your hopes up, the state will run out of money long before Cali gun owners do.

“While most gun owners are law-abiding, it is a fact that such weapons are more likely to be used to kill an innocent person than used in self-defense," Yee said in a press release. "One only needs to look at England, Japan, and other nations with strict gun access to see that these types of gun control laws are effective in preventing gun-related homicides.”
Sam, I think you'll like that PrimaryArms red dot. I've got the Primary Arms "M4 Clone" and really love it! Recently bought a PA Gen III 3x magnifier and side mount from a guy on ebay. Have been wanting a little bit of magnification since my eyes kinda suck, once everything was mounted I hate it. The top of my rifle was so clean with just the M4 optic then I had to move it super far forward and mount this big *** thing... Options are kind of limited; Can't get a cantilever mount for the M4 because of how it mounts, and if I get a cantilever for the magnifier it won't swing to the side anymore...
Guess I should've gone with one of these:

Yup, but the only thing Primary has in stock are the 30mm multi-reticle. The Konus and Bushnell are essentially the same thing as the micro-dot... just Aimpoint clones, and all at $100, so I really can't go wrong.
I'm also looking for a front/rear MBUS flip-ups if anybody has a set they want to offload for the cause... original Magpul only, don't want my gas-block covered in plastic goo.
If Pusha was here, I'm sure he'd tell me "Niteforce or go home", but I gots kids, so it's the cheap route for now.
For BUIS, I'm also going to try a set of the 45* fixed sites I've seen, so I'm looking for a cheap pair of those too.
And I hear you on wanting a "clean gun"... for the foreseeable future, I'm just going with the red-dot and a basic BUIS. I'm also looking at options for a .300AAC barrel, or maybe even a complete upper if I can get one cheap enough. My buddy has a 30cal suppressor and I'm not comfortable taking deer with a .223... silent hunting is best.

I have been to three different gun stores in the are in the past week or so. Their inventory sucks, to put it bluntly. All Remmington 700 sporters (and the like) and shotguns. Wallyworld doesn't carry any guns anymore in this area. Gander Mountain has some sporterized AR stuff, but with absolutely insane pricetags, like they really don't want to sell any.
The stores have a few used AR type stuff, but nothing that really catches my eye. I asked one guy about getting a keltec, and he laughed right in my face. One owner told me he doesn't sell guns like that. WTF?

Shot an AK for the first time this weekend, now I know why I won't build a gas-piston format AR... freaking hot furniture/metal.
Also managed to keep it on a 6" reactive target at 100 yards with the fully original iron sighted 1960s Polish AK setup. (from a rest... a half empty bulk .22 box)

Here are some numbers for 2011:
Two days before Christmas, NICS ran 102,222 background checks, which was the second-busiest day in history. The one-day record was set this year on Black Friday, the big shopping day following Thanksgiving, with 129,166 searches. By comparison, the previous one-day high was set November 28, 2008, when gun dealers made slightly less than 98,000 requests for background searches.
If you think AR15 prices are high now, wait until early November. I just bought the M&P15-OR and count myself lucky that BudsPoliceSupply seems to get a shipment every few months.
Towards mid-October, we'll start hearing about epic lines for gunshows, and how pawnshops are charging $300 for Hi-point pistols.

Financially speaking, gunshows are a complete waste of time unless you're looking for a very specific used gun that you haven't been able to find elsewhere, or are simply looking to handle a lot of different guns. Occasionally I'll try a new flavor of beef jerky.
Anybody who buys an AR at a gunshow clearly has done zero homework online... which is fine if you're not concerned about a 15-20% markup. I guess if you added up what my time is worth that I've spent doing homework on how to save $20 on dozens of different items, it probably makes sense to just pay $1000 on an $800 gun and be blissfully happy in the end.
I've also found a few boxes of ammo here and there with a price-tag that was obviously put on a few years ago... a couple boxes of Aguila brass .223 50rd with $12 on them made their way into my bag a few months ago. I still lost money on gas and the $8 entrance fee, but I also needed a new dental pic after breaking my last one cleaning my grill burners.
OH YEAH... CHEAP LOWERS!

Sam's pretty much nailed the head on gun shows. Gotta love the a-holes selling **** above retail there, but I've complained about that before.
I've got a link at home for ATI glock magazines and I've had good luck with them personally..
Scott, I've got one of these:
It's a Lansky Sharpening kit and is AWESOME. Spent around $50 for it and the thing is da ****, just gotta make sure you don't slice the tip of your finger off.
