Yet Another Gun Thread

It's pretty damn slick, isn't it? The grip with the flat backstrap is awesome. Can be carried cocked and locked like a 1911 too. I really want one as a nightstand gun, but I missed the opportunity when they were available for $550-600 a few years ago. Now they seem to be $800+. I'll stick with my Steyr M9-A1.

YES YES YES YES!!
After about 2 months of searching I've finally managed to acquire some rifle powder. Bought a pound of Hodgdon's CFE223 from a local gun shop who come to find out has a pretty large stock of powder and are selling for roughly $1 above regular retail price. Can't say the same for their PMC .223 which are marked $17 a box.
Went out of town with the GF over the holiday weekend and stopped by Sierra Bullets in Sedelia Missouri for a tour and outlet store visit. Sadly they were out of all 10mm projectiles along with all 9mm projectiles with the exception of 9mm 90gr JHP's. Bought 3 pounds of .224 55gr BlitzKing's and 2 pounds of 55gr JHP's. Time to get my load on!

Things just don't seem to be getting better yet... Went to cabelas and gander yesterday. Cabelas had about 2 milk crates full of some garbage no name ar15 30 round mags for $30 each and about 7 boxes no name Russian steel 7.62x39 for $7 each. Neither had .22lr or .223. *sigh*. No need to ban guns. We can't even get ammo.

Was that No-Name steel 7.62x39 Herter's by chance? If so it's TulAmmo rebranded to their store brand. Good stuffs.
Yeah, I made the mistake of going to Cabela's lastnight as well looking for powder and they had NONE. Absolutely no .223 of any kind on the shelf, had plenty of people waiting in line to buy (fondle) firearms...

Herters(Cableas) and Monarch(Academy) and about a dozen other brands over the years are all made in Russia at the Tula Arsenal.
I've been searching for a few weeks now to figure out how their factories are going to play into the current shortage. It takes time for a factory to ramp up production... then travel time on trucks to the train station, to the beach, on the freighter, across the world, dock, customs, distributors, retailers... etc... They should have no shortage of raw materials and should be able to theoretically run 24/7. No word yet on that piece of the industry and how soon they can get in the game.
Back in November, Cableas had a sale on Herters .223 for $4.99 box and free shipping over $100. I bought 460rds for $103 shipped if I remember. After 200rds, I've had one double-feed on a practically new S&W AR15. With my 2MOA red-dot, it shoots 5" groups at 100yds from a front rest. There is no reason to shoot brass at the range at those prices unless you reload and have access to free brass.
I need to visit a few of the local Walmarts and have a talk with the Managers. I went to one and he was reluctant to tell me anything, but that was a few weeks ago.
And currently at the national level, the "scare" is over. There is no chance of a AWB or mag-ban out of congress. In fact, this scare has managed to get far more Pro-gun legislation than anti.
I've been reading on various forums, and the informed consensus is that the ammo shortage is going to last well into the fall in all calibers. If you see any deals however, you really can't afford not to buy all they'll let you.

Just got back from the range, fed 100 rounds of copper clad .40 S&W goodness through my new toy. Absolutely fantastic firearm and it's a joy to shoot. Initially I was shooting 3" to the left, mostly corrected it towards the end but point of impact was still tending left of my aim. Best sights I have ever seen, so quick and easy to acquire a target. After running 20 or so rounds through it I decided it was time for a little fun and tried some rapid fire. Nothing too crazy mind you, but boy was I surprised just how well it stays on target. I was nowhere near as accurate with my old 9mm (Taurus PT92) or as quick to re-acquire the target. The 9 felt like it wanted to fly up and out of my hand, not so with the .40. I traded the Taurus towards the new sexy FN and was sad to see my first ever gun purchase go away. That feeling is gone. Long gone.
Long story short, this gun kicks all sorts of ***. Very happy with the purchase.
I stopped by Cabelas Monday night hoping to score some ammo, left empty handed of course, and saw a crazy geezer loading up a shopping cart with 7.62x39. I don't know how much he rolled out of there with but he had a layer covering the entire basket and was well into his second when we walked by. I'm certain he at least emptied the shelf, hopefully he left the end-cap alone so someone else could pick some up. At $7.49/box there was no way I was going to pick any up.
Can you guys find any .22LR? Really surprising it's out of stock everywhere, even the range was out. Luckily they had some .40 at $18/50 - range use only. Bagged in-house (zip-lock) Winchester. Don't know if it was new or reloads but it shot fine. Need to find some on a shelf somewhere so I can take it to the Conservation run ranges and pay $3/hr instead of $20.
I hope you're wrong about the fall time frame, Sam.

I'm actually trying to organize a group buy for my squadron of M&P pistols through Quantico Tactical (S&W's official source for mil group sales) and am told it's an 8 month wait.
For .22lr, I'd make it a habit of gong inside every Walmart I drove past, and go out of my way to actually drive past them. I will say that it's a good time to stock up on shotgun ammo... most places I've been are well'ish stocked at standard prices.
!!!FOR EVERYBODY!!!
If you don't have THEFIRINGLINE- LAW AND CIVIL RIGHTS FORUM hotlinked in your browser, then you're behind. Anything important in the legal world of firearms legislation is discussed there. The mods rule with an iron fist, and tolerate no bullshit. There are a few regular posters there who are first rate at deciphering legalese and spelling out the intricacies of bills. I visit there daily to stay on top of stuff.

A lot of you probably got this email too. But for those of you who didn't, this if from the President of Midway.
It says a lot to me, they will have my business while places like Cheaper Than Dirt wont get any of my money. Perhaps we can start a "Who Was Gouging" thread, to keep track of the asshats.
Dear Valued Customer,
In the spring of ‘77, I left the Air Force and moved to Columbia, MO to pursue my dream of running a gun shop. You see, I’d always loved the outdoors; especially shooting and hunting. Some of my fondest childhood memories involve shooting and hunting with my dad and brothers. Then, as an adult, some of my greatest joys have come while shooting and hunting with my wife, my kids, my friends and now my grandkids. I love this industry, I love our way of life and I love serving Customers.
Now, our way of life is being challenged like never before and our Customers are responding with a flood of orders. In the 35 years I’ve been in business, I’ve never seen anything like this.
We’re monitoring the political environment, our industry’s capabilities and our business on a daily basis and making policy and process changes to better serve Customers. But please understand, while we’re still able to get most orders out the same day they’re placed, you may experience longer than normal wait times on the phone or when you chat with us on the web. Also, it’s taking us a few extra days to respond to emails. Finally, we’re out of a bunch of products I know you want which breaks my heart. And when we do get them in, they rarely spend the night in the building because they’re ordered almost immediately. We’re tirelessly working to get products in the door and out to Customers as fast as we can. But, until supply catches up with demand, we’re having to limit quantities and backorders on certain products.
One thing we haven’t done is change our prices because of this surge in demand. Prices do change from time to time as they always have, but we’d never change prices because of something like this. Our pricing strategy is one of the reasons we’ve put quantity limits on certain products. We’ve all seen certain products selling two or three times higher than normal, and MidwayUSA doesn’t want to enable that type of activity. Also, we want to serve as many Customers as possible when we receive high-demand products. If it’s any consolation, none of our Employees can order products with quantity limits (myself included). We’ve all agreed to put Customers first. And that’s the way it’ll always be at MidwayUSA.
As always, everything we do is intended to be in the best interest of our Customers and we’re eternally grateful for your patience and loyalty.
Thanks for Your Business!

Whats funny is someone is keeping a list of companies doing things like not supplying NY and other anti states. CTD is showing up (due to their recent non-NY selling letter), but the gouging of theirs gets glossed over...
