Default is it a good idea to pony up the cash for lojack?

If my car were stolen, I wouldn't get enough cash from insurance to replace it. Is lojack a decent option? My car is garage kept, and I have a daily, but I still worry about driving arround town, or parking it anywhere at night.

install a fuel pump cutoff switch would add some peace of mind.

I'd just put a decent alarm on it, something with a pager preferred, and as Olderguy said, don't lock the doors. Less chance of them cutting the top.

I've seen how the Lojack guys in my area install their systems and can tell you that if the theif has half a brain he will be able to disconnect it in less than 30 seconds.

When it gets down to it, if they really want your car they are going to get it no matter what. Everything you do is basically to deter the "smash and grabbers" and vandals away.

I know if anyone wants the car, they can get it. I had a car stolen with a flatbed once. Lojack may help if I notice soon enough though.

A car theif is a different criminal than a guy who steals items out of a car. You can not prevent either crime, but you can try to minimize your losses.

When the car is sitting, don't ever leave anything valuable in plain sight. Leave the doors unlocked. I keep a $20 or $50 bill in the (unlocked) center console.

If someone wants to steal your car, they will. If it happens, do you really want it back? I wouldn't. I'd rather take a check and build another one.

Apparently that was one of those guys who didn't even have half a brain.

I've seen a case where a 12yr old stole a flat bed so he could steal a car for someone.

the only problem with lojack and onstar bullshit is that you dont know who is wathing you. if htey are paying attention or trying ot build some sort of case agianst you i dont know how admissable it is but if it where used to call the cops as you where running down the raod at 100+ mph it would **** me off.

Insurance is not going to cut me a check for modifications. I got $4k for my turbo slc corrado on 16x9 oz futuras, H&R coilovers, and all kinds of other ****. Those cars bring arround $8k now in stock form.

Not to come off like too much of a dick (which is tough; it's my nature), but what I would suggest is don't underinsure your vehicle. Get agreed upon value coverage or add a rider to your existing coverage. My Miata's insured for $7500. If someone wants to do me the favor of stealing it, I'll buy a nice 1.8 for $4k and have $3.5k to build it.

THANK YOU!!!! I'm so glad somebody said it. Just buy a policy that covers it all! Make sure they know you've got $4k in aftermarket parts and you want a full reimbursement policy.
