Plenty of rotor left. You can still see the wear bars!

Nice. Saw this today, and it helped me find a new sub: Just Rolled Into the Shop

I am currently downloading all the pics in Faeflora's thread for submission.

Looks fake. Like someone was goofling off with a brake lathe.

I had a buddy that was working at a shop when some sort of land rover or something came in, apparently it was a floating disk and they had worn so bad that the outside disk shattered and ended up all over the road. The owner drove it for several days before bringing it in...

Thats definitely shenanigans on the brake lathe.... notice how its cut very evenly and... the telling part is that its cut way past where the brake pad would have got. When rotors get down to the vents, they never make it that far before the rotor falls completely apart.

I used to date a girl with a cute little metallic blue Scion TC who knew absolutely zero about car or how they worked. Her old man, who was a pretty cool dude (SCCA champ way back apparently), had a little booklet made with different tasks to be completed at different mileage intervals and a space for a mechanic's signature. Going with her to Sam's Club to buy a case of Mobil 1 for her car was always a great feeling.

Stuff like that little book can keep *some* women from catastrophe, methinks.

You guys are completely right. Look how they are ground past where even the pads meet the rotor.

Heh, yeah this one looks legit. Also look at that caliper!

This is more what I'd expect. Those brake pads would have been long gone before a rotor got that eaten. I can't believe the internet lied to me.

I've seen several in real life that looked just like the first pic. I worked at a service station and also at an auto parts store, each for several years, while in college. This crap is entirely more common than people with a little bit of sense are able to fathom. I don't blame you for doubting it. Never underestimate the stupidity of the person in the next lane.

Definitely fake, I have actually replaced brakes like that.. The rotor was all wavy from the bolts that hold the friction pad.

I've actually seen the aftermath from when after the pad wears out the backing plate drops out and the caliper's piston gets into the rotor. The caliper core is ruined because the piston comes out so far that it rocks in the bore and wedges against the rotor. Fluid goes everywhere and they loose the pedal so they finally get it fixed.
