Default 2012 Texas Miata Roundup

The Houston Miata Club will be hosting the 2012 Texas Miata Roundup in Galveston, Texas at the Hilton Island Resort on Seawall Blvd. Spend a weekend with us Oct. 5-7 and enjoy a room with an ocean view, the beach practically at you front door, the best seafood in Texas and some attractions that will interest most anybody.

If that doesn't entice you enough, the official sponsor of this event is going to be Fat Cat Motorsports and along with that title is their donation to a Grand Prize Raffle of a $2000 Fat Cat Suspension if attendance is 50 cars, or a $3000 single adjustable Fat Cat suspension if attendance is 100 cars or a$4000 dual adjustable Fat Cat suspension if we break the record of 150 cars. Of course we have other sponsors such as BEGI and FM and a host of others.

Registration ends in September. Go to the Houston Miata Club website to register. Just a little video of things to do in Galveston.

We're already half way in attendance for the $2000 suspension package. It just gets better from here! Unless you don't register.

Yes! We plan on a 30 minute run (warm up, qualifying, competing). Depending on the turnout, we will have a qualifying run before the competition. This will place the competitors in a closer finish time and allow the slower drivers the same quality of competition.

There is a lot of track (3/4 mile) to negotiate, even being 3 lanes wide require a bit of skill to pass and trying to pass on the 12' banked turn is a challenge to say the least.

The back roads that we will take from the Hotel in Galveston to Angleton where Motor Sport Ranch Houston should be interesting.

For those needing to find entertainment for their better halves, I went to Galveston looking for footage to promote to the women folk. The Strand is Galveston's "Paradise Lost" of malls. This Tombstone of death for guys is the mainstreet of clothes, babbles, beads, what-nots, and thing-a-majigs for women. Guys you'll need handcuffs, blindfolds and rope to tear your woman from the grips of these merchants. Something for everyone at this years Roundup.

Video footage is going to have to come from someone in the Houston Miata Club that is better adapted to this new form (for me) of media. I have the skills of a duck riding a bicycle when it comes to anything other than snapping a picture.

Even though I hate it, "The Strand" is pretty cool and there are a couple decent restaurants there.

Thanks to the support of the Clubs statewide, we will soon be reaching the next stage in which we will be able to dangle the $3000 single adjustable Fat Cat suspension as the Grand Prize of the raffle instead of the $2000 package.

The activities curriculum is culminating soon and will be posted to the Houston Miata Club website. I think we will keep you very busy!

Default Time is short!

Miata enthusiast! The deadline for registration to the Texas Miata Roundup is just around the corner. (Sept. 1) I can count the number of rooms left on one hand. That special someone that sits in the co-pilot seat, the one that puts up with you when you are carving that corner or spinning around those little orange traffic cones, deserves some special attention. Some “together” time in Galveston on the beach!

If you’ve been to any previous Roundups, you’ll remember that we catered more to the driver. This year we still have some interesting “driver” events for you but I think the vacation atmosphere will put you miles ahead for your future exploits! Don’t let this opportunity to show some appreciation drive by you. Go to Houston Miata Club aka "Miata Mania" and register for this years Texas Miata Roundup while there is still time and rooms.

Regards,
The Houston Miata Club aka "Miata Mania" Team.

There is a God and he absolutely loves Miatas and their owners! The weather was perfect (considering that this is Texas). The activities were plentiful (some cheap, some not-so-cheap, and some free). The sponsors were generous and numerous. The scenery was breath-taking (other than the ocean and the beaches). I can truthfully say that there was something for everyone at this 2012 Texas Miata Roundup.

My compliments to Paul Flores. He plotted the route to MSR Houston for the Karting event. It's add extension to the Bluewater Run made the touches that put the topping on a nice run. The participants to the Bluewater Run were so fired up from the fun run that when they arrived at MSRH, they also had to go karting. The Ferry Runs were fun and the ferry run in the daylight hours had the added thrill of the porpoises (20) that followed and played along side.

The scenery…There was the beauty of the morning sun over the horizon, just kissing the Gulf waters as it rose and framed with our Galveston beach. There was the general view, from the balcony of the Hotel that enhanced the whole experience. Then...there was the view of the Texas Teen Pageant contestants (Friday) AND...the Miss Texas Pageant contestants (Saturday) ALL STAYIN' AT THE HOTEL!!!! Beautiful women, the beautiful wives, the beautiful girlfriends and our beautiful friends surrounded.

I wish that we had taken the names of the raffle prize winners but leave it said the Blue Bonnet Club has got to be the luckiest, as one of their members was the winner of the Grand Prize Fat Cat Motorsport suspension. There were several Clubs that also went home with some nice winnings from Moss Motors, Flyin Miata, BEGI, Fast Forward Superchargers, Bob Thiery, Rspeed, Auto Xpressions, Louis Lester and Jackie Lambert. Some new members of the Houston Miata Club parlayed their membership immediately into the Fast forward fuel rail (raffle) and the Moss short shifter kit (Karting event FTD). How lucky is that? To become a new member and walk away having at least tripling your money.

Everyone may have thought it sadistic having to wait until all the raffle prizes were gone before picking the ticket for the Grand Prize. The winners of the previous prizes did not know whether the applause was for the raffle prize they had just won or for the remaining “non-winners” that still were in the running for the Grand Prize. The tension was “classic”. You could see the disappointment on the remaing raffle ticket holders that had been deprived of any trinket of a reminder of this 2012 Texas Miata Roundup, as our younger group would say "epic".

When the announcement was made that all remaining ticket holder come up and have their ticket redeemed for one of the new LED flashlights, you should have seen the stampede! You had to have been there. It was great. Everybody won something!

I want to notify everyone! Next years Roundup will be hosted by the Blue Bonnet Club of San Antonio. If...and this is just conjecture on my part, if they host, the likelyhood is that it will incorporate the "Three Twisted Sisters". I've said it many times before these are listed in the Motorcycle Roads of Texas as the best roads in Texas for riding. GO!
