E-mail your questions to:

I'm sure there's a way.

probably not. even if you lied and said you've done a few hpde's. they would know on your test ride that you lied. it's a little harder than it looks. not that you couldn't get the basics down by the end of your 1st hpde. but you need at least that to pull it off. you just missed a hpde at hhr in austin today. it was fun despite the rain. there's an event in the valley (hpde) by the pca. Coastal Bend Region PCA - Unreal Portal it's only $80 and you could get signed off to solo that same day. which would make you eligible for tws.
wags won't have a problem because he's an instructor and has a racing liscence. everybody is assuming you have to have driven at a tws event to do the open trackday. they're just saying you need to have some experience because there won't be instructors.
although, you could email them (TWS) and ask if you could get some instruction like double 00 said. couldn't hurt to try.

miata's at hallett is next weekend, it's a drive away but you can get a instrucktor that drives a miata where at a the pca even you get a porsche driver showing you how to drive a mista like it's a porsche. also hallett is a very technical track, if you do good there you will do good elsewhere.

hey! i'm a pca instructor and can show someone how to drive a miata! i don't know about other regions, but here in the coastal bend region, the pca instructors drive (besides the ones with porsche') miata's, viper's, vettes, an s2000, a skyline gtr, an fd ls1 swapped rx-7, bmw m3's etc.....

i'm not going to be at the event next weekend, but my buddy that races spec miata, and also runs a msm with begi turbo upgrade will be there instructing. i could set it up for him to be gspeeds instructor.

i have a feeling he's not going to go to either of our suggestions. maybe there's some other reason he can't make it to an event before next month.

Now it looks like I won't be there because of work. I am going to be at pretty much every track day after that at TWS, H2R, and hopefully MSR-C since it is in my backyard pretty much.

well, the event is finally getting close. and i have a few questions for you guys. first, our crew (Voodoo Racing) had a show about a month ago and we have a few trophy's left over. i can probably get them donated and make some new plaques for them. should i do this? would this get some of you guys to put a little more effort into making this event? if i do bring trophy's, where can i hand them out? i don't want to have an awards ceremony at their open trackday. lol......... even though we aren't doing anything differently than a reg. trackday, i don't want to **** any of those people off. maybe if hustler actually makes it and takes that big *** rv he was talking about, we could hand them out there.

also, i get the feeling some people are worried about not being fast enough. fast enough for who? the main reason for bringing this up in the first place was to see each other's setup's/solutions to different problems and help each other get faster. if we follow emillio's simple rule set. we would have 3 classes. street, modified, and unlimited. within 2 minutes you can look at his list of points mods and add them up to see what class you would fall into. that way the slightly modded n/a cars can compare times to like cars and so on. maybe the fastest car in that class has some part that the other's lack, or is running a different tire than the other's. maybe the second fastest car is way faster in a certain part of the track than the 1st place car and he can find out what the 2nd place car is doing differently there or whatever. you get the idea. point is, don't get hung up on being the fastest or too slow. i think if you come in 1st place, but didn't learn anything that day, you really lost!

last thing, do you guys wanna add up your points and class your cars now and let me know, or should i just print up some sheets and class everybody the day of the event? i'd really like to get as much done before i get there, just to make sure everyone has time to get ready, plus i think it would help if we all tried to park under the same garage. i plan on being there as soon as they open so just look for the carport crawling with miata's.

i'll post this to the other forum's also.

Yeah man why not? I think that is a great idea.

Also a good idea. I am assuming he will also be bringing all of these hotties he says he has been tapping so we will have umbrella girls.

point is, don't get hung up on being the fastest or too slow. i think if you come in 1st place, but didn't learn anything that day, you really lost!

I know TWS really well, but all of my laps have been on bikes. Now I need to learn how to go around fast in a car.

last thing, do you guys wanna add up your points and class your cars now and let me know, or should i just print up some sheets and class everybody the day of the event? i'd really like to get as much done before i get there, just to make sure everyone has time to get ready, plus i think it would help if we all tried to park under the same garage. i plan on being there as soon as they open so just look for the carport crawling with miata's.
Hey based on my racing experience, anytime anything can be done ahead of game day, it should be. It is always pretty hectic at the track. It is not so bad on track days but still... I am new to NASA points determination and what not (bikes have class rules, and there are only four) so if you can point us in the right direction on how to calculate our class. I think the three classes you listed should do the trick. I imagine the LS1 Miata will put me in unlimited

Speaking of which, I am on the fence about which car to bring to the track day, though I am leaning towards the LS1 since this is its intended future purpose; I might as well start getting it sorted. Would you guys rather see the turbo car or the LS1 car? Either way it will be wearing 6ULs with r-comps.

the classing system is waaaayyyy easier and quicker then a nasa tt deal.
you can see it here: Miata Challenge

looks like you would be in modified depending on your suspension and what not. (with your ls1)

looks like i'll be in modified unless i have to take a point for a carbon hardtop (if i have it by then)
supposedly it's not really lighter than oem due to the fiberglass inside, but i may not have it by then anyway.

i would say take your ls1 unless there's some parts on it that would hinder your lap times too much. (like stock brake pads or something) is your new car on stock springs? if it is, i would atleast put some coilover sleeves with 350-450 frt. and 250-350 rear springs. that's the most i would try to run on agx. iirc that's what came on the car right?

I, for one, want you to bring the LS1 Miata. I've already seen one or two turbo Miatas.

OK that was easy to determine. I am at 14 points with the LS1 car which puts me in modified. That is assuming I add the Tein suspension and add a splitter, both which I plan to do by then. If I bring the turbo car, that puts me at 19 points, same as Hustler.

That is odd that the turbo cars and the V8 cars end up being scored so differently when the engines are the only difference. At any rate, no worries, it's all good.

**** I have 20 points. I have a feeling there would be a lot more expected out of this car than what I can give right now.

It was sad to go so slow in my car. I really need to step it up.

Hey do not get too worried about your class. The point here is to go have some fun. The 'Informal Challenge' as I see it is just some potential icing on the cake. Like I said, it's all good

So this is on a Friday evening right?

I won't race, but I may study late just to watch some of you guys.

Who's coming into town early enough I could buy them lunch in exchange for build advice?

I usually head back towards Houston after my midday class...but the two best turbo Miatas in Texas and an LS1 Miata are all worth sticking around for.

There's no way I could get my car to pass tech and get qualified by then...but I appreciate the pointers guys. Maybe me and car will be ready for next season.
