Default Miatas @ The Gap '09 anybody?

Read last year's thread starting a new one. Who's going this year? The headquarters is Fontana instead of Tapoco which is a more space and a lot better imo. I know it can be m.net-ish, trust me, I've been going to it since i was 14 lol (20 now). But since its such a big area now you can usually go your own way and m-net-ers are usuaully passed out by 9 or out on a 7-hr run to a restaurant or completely away from the gap. Never the less, its managable.

As far as having the road to yourself at this event, you can get up around 7-8 am and itll be pretty clear, cops dont show til 9:30ish. Did this with my friend in his 350z and we had a white 02 running a BEGi-S setup run with us, lots of fun. He ended up saying we were young and crazy but laughed along with us anyways.

Any plans of having an unofficial official mt.net meet sometime during the weekend to check out all our strained engines? Just putting that out there hah.

Dude, dosen't your car only have like 20,000 miles. What you so afraid of? And trust me, you do not want to be there without your car.

I went in Oct, the weather was great, Im also staying at Fontana. An MT meet up would be cool. I saw a thread on M.net where a guy went like 11 years and said he wasnt going because of Tapoco being closed boohooo.

I was just there, for the 1st time, about a month ago. We were heading up to Pigeon Forge, and it would have been a shame not to drive 129. It was ok, but I preferred some of the other roads up there. We went out into the countryside to see what else is out there and there is a lot. I couldn't tell you the names of the hwys because I was following along, but they weren't as heavily traveled or patrolled. After driving the Dragon, I can honestly say that I would not drive the 9-10 hours from Tampa just for that. After the first 15 turns it starts to look and drive the same.

There will be over hundreds of miata owners at the gap. By all means this is the ideal event to break down at if you were to break down.

I agree. We do have flat roads in FL. Fortunately, there are some good twisty roads up in Pasco County, just N. of Tampa. I hit those quite a bit.

I preferred 441 from Gatlinburg to Cherokee. It had some tight turns through the mountains and long straights as well, but the traffic during the day can be bad. I liked that mix over just left-right driving at the gap. We blasted through there in the late afternoon and it was fun. There is a river that runs parallel with the road, and the scenic views are the best. There was a road, Wayah road? I can't remember. We actually went back up there at night and the view of the city lights from the mountaintop was freaking awesome.

I just got back from the GAP two weeks ago. Had the most FUN ever, and no it wasnt in my miata but in my classic mini. But it did get my intrests up in going back in my Miata.

The THP was very prominant there. Our mini meet consisted of drives every day. 125+ miles .. not of just the gap but everywhere... the Cherahola parkway, foothills parkway , Great smokey mountains state park. and I too will say the gap is nice, but the rest of the roads are awesome too bikes would live the gap, better for knee dragging turns everywhere. We stayed in a little town on the other side of the gap. called townsend.. Had a KOA where we all camped and had partyed there all night. the official highway 129 was 30 min, over nice senic highway, and Townsend wasnt over populated with the other gap car and bike clubs.

What weekend is this supposed to be happeneing. I havnt seen it mentioned here earlier. If it works out, im only 4 hours away i shouldnt miss it for awesome Eastern NC and western Tn roads.
