Default Thinking of Letting My SCCA Membership Expire

Like the title says. They want $90 a year for membership dues. All just to AutoX. Speed Ventures is now holding some autox's in my area, probably 3-5 times a year, and many track days. Plus there are several other vendors doing the same, none asking for any memberships.

Anyone else done this? Regretted it? Times are tough, I need to spend my $$ wisely.

I know for me, if I were running autoX for a year, the SCCA membership pays for itself and I save $20 at the end of the year. We have 10 autoX events. If you are a SCCA member, you pay $10 less. So over a year, a non-member spends $100 more. Buying the $80 membership makes up that difference. Well, IIRC it was $80 the last time I did have a membership...mine expired since I'm not running autoX right now. I wish I could runautoX with another group, but nothing like that is going on around Atlanta. PCA does some, but you have to have a P-car. BMW club does like 2-3 autoX events a year somewhere, but it's only for fun.

THSCC (Sorry, they are local to NC), runs 10-11 autocrosses a year, requires a $35 membership fee and saves you $5 on a $25 autocross fee. You also save $20 per track event. I think SCCA is overpriced. NASA is $45, but no autocross.

I wouldn't think twice about letting it expire. As a matter of fact, I don't have an SCCA membership. But to be honest, our regional only requires a $45 membership. I guess thats to keep up with NASA? but its not like they do the same thing, SCCA does 1-2 HPDEs a year, compared to NASA which is doing 5-6.
